Spec me a Laptop bitches!

I'm getting a laptop for Christmas, I'd like the best I can get for my money. I don't need it to run Crysis or something, but I'd like it not to choke on, say, Counter-Strike Sauce.

Available money is along the lines of 250-300 pounds.

You could buy an EEE and a SteamMyGame subscription.

You saying that it wouldn't be enough? I suppose I can slap an extra 100 pounds to it if you can find anything in that price range but really that's the high limit.

I suspect you'll get a great general use laptop for that money (£2-400), but almost certainly intel graphics, which are about as useful for gaming as testicular cancer.

I got a Dell magazine the other day, lots of really cheap yet not-shit laptops there. I have since binned it mind, but I'd recommend going to see what Dell have to offer.

Ooookay.

Redoing order: 250-300 pounds. Able to run Visual Studio with DirectX 9, a web browser, and something along the lines of Peggle and Starcraft.

Pretty much anything will work then, hell, you could probably hollow out a rat and manage those specs.

I went for a Dell last time. Prices are pretty good and experience has shown that they're pretty reliable. You can also tweak your order for extra gubbins like RAM and pink covers. Only for laptops, mind. Dell desktops are damn near impossible to upgrade so pretty useless to a gamer.

Yes, you aren't.

I've been digging around Dell as suggested.

Any experiences with Inspiron 1525?

Not specifically I'm afraid. Reviews seem pretty good though.

Dell Outlet.

Refurbed, cancelled orders and other reasons why they've got excess laptops that don't match the standard retail spec. Come with factory warrenties as if buying brand new products.
Quite frankly, most refurbs would probably consist of brand new core parts during the repair session so you shouldn't have any issues at all (probably less as they'll get tested before shipping to confirm the repairs are working).
