WoW Levelling Made Even Easier

Sounds a bit like the sidekick system from CoH. It'll certainly make the ubiquitous 'multi-boxers' very excited.
Blizzard has announced extensive changes to its recruit-a-friend program for World of Warcraft, with hefty incentives on offer for both recruiter and friend.

Most notable is an exclusive in-game Zhevra mount (a sort of zebra-unicorn thing); players can claim one of these for every friend they recruit who purchases two months of game time.

However, there are also major in-game benefits to both players. Their accounts are linked, and it's made easier for them to adventure with each other.

While adventuring with a character on a linked account, both players will gain triple experience, levelling up three times as fast.

Furthermore, for every two levels the new player earns, he or she can grant a free level-up to a lower-level character played by the veteran. This will be useful if a newly-recruited friend charges ahead of the character you created to play with them, while you're busy playing your max-level main character.

Characters on linked accounts can summon each other once per hour, cutting down on travel times.

Links between accounts only last 90 days, though. Veteran players get 30 free days of game time if their recruit pays one month's subscription.

For more details, check out Blizzard's FAQ.

Sounds like it'll encourage loads of hardcore players to create multiple accounts so they can powerlevel both of them.

It sounds like a really good and useful system, but it's crap that it's a 'brand new customers only' thing aimed at turning existing players into WoW pimps and that the link only lasts 90 days.

I couldn't give a fuck about a Zunicorn or free game time, but linking accounts for moar XP, the ability to summon* and the option to give a quick boost to a mate to help them catch up all sound like excellent ideas which would keep people playing together longer.

People continuing their susbcriptions makes them money too, so I don't see why they have the limits. Even 1.5x joint XP, summon once a day and a free level-up once a week would be good.

* Without being/getting a warlock and two party members to click on your portal, seriously - that sucks, why not just let people fucking summon?

Once one overtakes the other can you not create a new linked account then transfer the higher level character to that? You could leapfrog them indefinately like that.

I think the two characters need to be within 5 levels of each other.
