I can't think of why Ubisoft would have released even more Far Cry 2 footage except to show off what their new tech can do. It's running at some chronic level of detail in this trailer, which also has a jolly good soundtrack. It's the trailer equivalent of driving round town in your new Ferrari, or something. I still think this could emerge as GOTY.

Also, i'm not sure why, but somehow i'm convinced this'll run smoother than crysis.

Because, unlike crysis, it wasn't coded by spastic monkeys with face aids.

Howso?

They're about as involved in Farcry 2 as I was in the French revolution.

Fuck me, that looks a bit good. I can't afford to upgrade at the moment though. If they can pull off the cinematic aspects of it to the same degree as COD4, then it could be great.

Oooooh, shineh.

Edit:
A dynamic weather system has been added that varies the weather based on the players ability - if the player is doing exceptionally well the sky will be clear and sunny, but if problems arise the sky will become dark and stormy.
The game will be much more realistic with features such as the player having to use a map and compass to get around, and more life or death related features such as having to use tools to dig bullets out of the body and pat themselves down when on fire. Weapons will disintegrate over time, adding a grimer look to them, and eventually causing them to jam.
The gameplay area will be around 50 km2
This is now starting to ping on my squildo radar.

Yeah, it's sounding good. But so did Stalker.

Stalker was good, if you ignored the oblivion with guns hype.

This does make me hard, I can't decide if I want this or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. more, although this may well just be leading now.

I hoping it will be the game that Stalker promised to be.
Wikipedia wrote:S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is a non-linear, sandbox game. Players have a relatively free-reign to explore the world and also have many opportunities to interact with other characters.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is primarily an FPS (with many similarities to tactical shooters such as Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon), but features many RPG elements as well. The player does not gain additional abilities or statistics like most RPGs, but is instead allowed to use various types of equipment found that is either purchased or found throughout the game world. There are a large number of items in the game, so the player has customization choices which are constrained primarily by how much exploring they do.
Bollocks. Stalker isn't non-linear, and fuck knows what RPGs they've been playing if they think it's like one. So you can choose which weapons or artifacts you want to use - whoop de-fucking-doo

I've mentioned before I don't get on with Stalker, and it's primarily for the reason that it didn't deliver on its promises. People talk about the great atmosphere, but to me it justs reminds me of a rainy Sunday afternoon. And the AI is shit.

Farcry 2, don't let me down - I know where you live.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is non-linear in the sense that the game doesn't restrict where you can go. At any time you can go to any part of the game world you want to. The main storyline is pretty linear, but the game is nowhere near as linear as COD4 or Half-Life 2. I agree it was massively over hyped, and the original design was much too ambitious for any dev studio to handle frankly. You shouldn't let that spoil it though, as it has some really good stuff in it.

stalker was massively over-hyped, while it didn't manage to do what the devs had said they were trying, you did end up with a scary, atmospheric game, and it was very much non linear, every mission was optional, the storyline was optional, you could go where you wanted* within the environment when you wanted to, AI was pretty broken, but a few mods have fixed it fairly well.

No, it wasn't perfect, and evidently you didn't like it, but it wasn't a bad game by any stretch, However, IMO it really does depend on the player - you have to be able to get into the atmosphere and the feeling to enjoy it**

*you don't need an open world for a game to be non linear.
**given Roman is from manc, I can see how stalker would look and feel like any rainy day up there.
:P
