http://www.peoplespetition.org.uk/

im sure you have all heard the tales of that guinea pig farm that has recently closed down for reasons such as frequent death threats and a grandmother being stolen from her grave, but what side do you take on it all? interestingly this is a petition for the people who want to protest for KEEPING animal testing going for medical research.

Code: Select all

The People's Petition encourages the public to sign up to three statements concerning animal research. They are:

    * Medical research is essential for developing safe and effective medical and veterinary treatments, requiring some studies using animals
    * Where there is no alternative available, medical research using animals should continue in the UK
    * People involved in medical research using animals have a right to work and live without fear of intimidation or attack.

All I know about animals, is that they're delicious.

:above: This (especially veal tears) ;)

i voted against it, but i suppose if it helps with research on incureable diseases it is nessersary. As long as there is no alternative and it is done humanely.

I certainly don't see how intimidation and - what is essentially terrorism -is supposed to get the public on side for stopping animal testing. On the other hand, there's no call for dripping vanity products in the eyes of weasels.

The phrase "Where there is no alternative available" worries me though- I can see 'not cost effective' and 'not considered viable' popping up as excuses frequently.

If it's not them it's us.

I'd rather i'd be them.

Also: For every animal you don't eat, i'm going to eat three.

I'm not voting in this poll, as I'm not in the UK, but I agree with Stoat's sentiments.

There's a whole philosophical, spiritual, and economical crossroads with many questions where people's opinions, beleifs, and ethics will all bash head to head.

''I hate animals and hope they all fucking die, im all for it. Infact, wheres my harpoon''

That one got my vote, lol neways back onto subject.

Im all for it, yes it may seem cruel but aslong as there bred for it and then humanely put down at the end of it i dont see the problem. Im a fond fan of my shooting sports e.g. sniping bunnies (they eat my dad's friends flowers) but only because theyre pests that taste good!!!

Billions of animals suffer needless cruelty to keep our double cheese burgers at 99p.

I'll give a fuck about the arguably moral use of animals for vital medical research, when animals for non-essential consumer products are treated with anything resembling humanity.

Not that I'm a veggie or anything...I just don't think militant animal rights protestors have their priorities straight...

Better animals than people. Even if you paid the people. Infact, *especially* if you paid the people.

exactly this, if protesters want to stop us testing it on animals they should volunteer to trial it in their place

Didn't work my way up to the top of the food chain over millions of years to eat fucking vegetables. And tough luck Mr Animal, I'm at the top and I have opposable thumbs, so there.

Im certainly a middleground person. On the one hand, the idea of dripping cosmetics into the eyes of bunnies makes me want to hurt people, on the other hand I have two friends (twins) who simply would not be alive if it were not for medicines that would never have been perfected were it not for animal testing.

On a mildly tangental note; my sister used to be in an anti-hunting group, untill they went from mildly annoying hunters to planning on terrorist style activities. According to her, on the whole the extremists who do stuff like blowing people up and the like dont really give a shit about the cause. If they actually managed to stop animal testing, they would just be off blowing people up for some other cause. They just like to do bad things, and are using animal testing (or whatever) as an excuse.

Certainly true of the ones I've met* - it's no coincidence that the symbol for ALF is similar to the one for Anarchists. While it would perhaps be untrue to say none of them care about the cause, if it did not exist they would find some other cause.

* Not met any of the 'blow people up' variety, just vandalism, trespass, criminal damage and supposed assault.

I don't think I can really take a stance on whether it's right or not, but I do know that I don't like the protesters very much. They're even smelly. I have to pass the zoogical building site in Oxford whenever I go in, so I know about this.
