Spec me a new Mouse Bitches

Helloes again!

My (up until now) rather decent logitech G7 mouse has started to develop an annoying habit - the click isn't reliable.

Basically, it double clicks when its not supposed to, and releases when i haven't lifted it enough to unclick. Its most likely to be a dodgy microwswitch inside, and probably fixable with the right parts.... but its not as easily take-apartable as my old mice.

Anyway, before i smash it to bits trying to take it apart, or just go and track down another G7 somewhere (they don't seem to sell them any more :( )

Does anyone have any decent competitors that i should also consider?

Well, I liked my Razor Copperhead......however I've broken the left clicky button (well, I say broken, it was fine at Easter, and it was deadish when I came back from uni this summer, I reckon someone's dropped something on it as the microswitch seems fine, but the spring seems knackered causing problems).

But....I have to admit the silver MS Intellimouse (5 button one I think) I had before it was bloody excellent (I broke the left button microswitch in that one after 3 years hard work).

Edit: Right. Fuck that. Pulled the mouse apart, it wasn't working because the plastic underside prong type object has indendations where the little button on the microswitch is, either something heavy has been dropped on it, or it's fucking cheap plastic as it's worn on both sides. Still, a couple of layers of glue will fix it.

I use G5s at home and work. I got tired of wireless ones needing batteries/not charging/not sitting in the cradle properly/loosing signal for no other good reason and MS ones always seem to break on me.

It's a better version of the MX518 which used to be my old mouse - don't know if everyone uses a mouse the same way I do though, as I rest the heel of my hand on the desk and move it with my fingers and these are small enough to allow that.

:above: I initially liked my wireless mouse, but I grew to hate and loathe it. I had an MX400 which was fine until it started doing what you say yours is doing now. I think it's a weakness in all Logitech mice. I replaced my MX400 with a 2nd gen G5, the blue & black one with the forward and back buttons. I'm liking it so far. The adjustable sensitivity is cool, but rather gimmicky to me.

I used to have a wireless mouse also, but it just wasn't worth it.

Now I just use decent but simple lazorz mice from Logitech, they prolly get replaced every 3-4 years. None of these extra buttons where you'd never actually need them type designs.

I've still got a Logitech Optical Mouse.
I don't think they make them any more though. I don't know what I'll do when if it breaks. I'd have to bury it or something, with a little headstone.

That's one thing that I didn't like about the original G5; only one thumb button. I got used to it though and it's a great mouse otherwise. Glad to see the new one has two. I especially like the large and resilient pads that don't wear down.

I used the sensitivity buttons when I played Beef, turning it down when aiming as a sniper and up when driving, flying, etc. It helped a bit.

I can't really fault my MX510, it's very comfortable, works well, and all the buttons are just where they should be. I'd happily buy another if my current one broke.

Actually, the microsoft intellimouse explorer 4 I have at work is pretty good too, but I prefer the MX510.

Might have to pick me one of them up.

been using MX510s and 518s for quite a while now, but the 518 I bought recently isn't standing up too well, all the painted on soft coating stuff, well. is gone. after about 3 months.

yep, the paint on my g7 isnt lasting too well.
Ive had it 2 years so it might be explainable, but then again i dont have acidic hands like berk. My old mx300 has lasted more than 5 years now (now on the office PC) and has no signs of wear so far.

Anyway, it turns out that the G7 has a 3 year warrenty, so i should be able to replace it with logitech. Catch is i won it at a lan party, so there is no proof of purchace or anything.
Will see how it goes....

Feckarse....

Well logitech had be smash up my G7 to prove its unusable.
Then they say that actually, they cant get any G7s to replace it. :x :x :x

They could offer a G9 or an MX revolution.

The G9 isnt wireless....
The MX revoultion cant be charged on the fly/hasnt got the same level of control....

Neither are the right shape, and neither are worth as much on ebay.

Even if i sell the revolution on ebay, im still gonna end up £30 or so down.
