I knew it was too good to be true.
Everytime i start my new pc, i get this message:

(i know it's in dutch, but it's the second line you should be paying attention too, otherwise i'll happily translate)

If i somehow manage to start it up though, this is what happens after a while:

I know this has something to do with my VGA drivers, but after downloading several different drivers and a hotfix for 4800 series cards, none of them will install/do anything. The solution to this is probably something really simple, but i'm thick with computers so i'm just not seeing it, and google hasn't been much of a help either.

Looks like that's the nvidia sata drivers.

Update your chipset drivers off the nvidia site, use safe mode if you need to (hammer F8 before windows starts)

that made my computer kinda shit itself.

but i just noticed that i have both nforce 750i SLI (north bridge) and nforce 430i (south bridge)

wich is the one that needs to be updated?

750i driver should take care of both.

...turns out i judged a bit too soon. Everything was going rather well, but then this happened;

i tried installing an extra fan, but that wasn't very helpful. any suggestions or should i go back to fiddling with drivers? (the blue screen thing is still fixed btw.)

Haha, Crysis really doesn't like you cheating.

In these circumstances I would:

1) Completely uninstall graphics card drivers
2) Run DriverCleaner Pro in SAFE MODE
3) Restart in normal mode and install the latest drivers - or search your problem on google and see if other people have found older drivers that work perfectly for them.
4) Get software to monitor temperature levels, maybe monitor and adjust fan levels too.
5) Consider just removing the side panel and see how it functions with it off. Often that's a temporary solution for me that ends up permanent.

My PC has been like this for a couple of months. However, I don't really like it as I can constantly see just how untidy the inside of my case is.

Move the case to the other side of you, then your view will be blocked by the motherboard plate... and as if by magic, mess disappears!

I'll resort to google now, see if that brings anything up.

A most cunning plan, with only 1 minor flaw. Doing that would mean that my computer sits bang in the middle of my desk, rather than on a slightly lower shelf against the wall the to the right of the desk. Not as scathing a refusal reason as Blackadder would have given, but I just like that first phrase too much to not use it.

Does it spazz out if you start it in VGA/Safe mode?

Does this happen in any other games, or just crysis? (maybe run 3dmark06 a few times to test)
How's the weather been recently?
What temperatures is your GPU showing?
Have you tried older graphics drivers, rather than newer ones?


It's also worth remembering this is a separate issue to the sata drivers one that started this thread. looks to me like your GPU or GPU memory is overheating.

So far, it happened only in Crysis and C&C3, i haven't played any other games long enough to find out.
Today, the weather is very warm, but yesterday was very cold.
VGA temperature is usually around 50°C, with both fans on max it usually stays around 50-57 when playing stuff like crysis.
It ran on an older driver, that's why i tried updating it.

CPU: 2 processors running - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
3 GB RAM
OS: Microsoft XP professional
VGA: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series
MOBO is an MSI 7380

as you know my computer horse is weak, so feel free to correct me if i missed out on anything.

looks like textboook graphical artifacts caused by overheating/breaking GPU or video RAM.

Since the beginning, but i was convinced overheating caused that. Now that i've solved that, i'm starting to think my graka is broken... Any real way of finding out?

Not really, but it does look unhealthy.

I'd suggest trying a lot of games and 3dmark, just to see if it happens in everything.

I'm not that hot on ATI drivers, there may well be betas worth trying too, deject?

Probably time to phone the shop and ask for a replacement though, shouldn't be an issue.
