I currently have an old Wireless 802.11 PCI card in my PC, but I am only getting about a 3-7% signal strength when scanning on my PSP.

Basically I was trying to "share my internet connection" with the PSP, as I do not have a wireless router.

I'm assuming if I were to buy one of these magical wireless USB stick thingies, I could then hook it up to my PSP so I can browse the internet and download content to my PSP and so on.

Seeing as I am (hopefully when the bloody thing sales) going to be moving house, would it make sense for me to buy a wireless access point/router so that I don't have to mess about with cables.

I know the debate over wired vs wireless, but I am not up together on what the latest recommended wireless router specs should be.

Would anything that's wireless "G" be good enough for connecting my PC, PSP and future PS3, or is there something around the corner I'm best of waiting for?

We've got a belkin wireless g jobbie and its fine. Slight hit to ping when wireless as opposed to wired, but no problems at all. We've got 2 PCs, a laptop and a powerbook on it, and it works fine. Was easy to secure too, unlike either of our neighbours who haven't secured their networks at all!

Having said that I'm using wired just now anyway cos I have ping issues when playing beef so try to reduce all variables that add to it.

The PSP is only 802.11b so you don't need anything faster than that if you just want to use the PSP on wireless, but you may as well get a g+ router if you're gonna go wireless PC (despite it's bad rep I think it's lovely, we have 2 pc's in the flat both using the wireless router and it works great for internet and other networky stuff)

I have no idea how to connect your PSP wirelessly direct to your PC's wireless card as it's not a router, you might have to do something to make it an access point, dunno and you should be able to test it by being next to your PC to get a much better signal than 7%, I can use my PSP with my router while sat on the shitter, and that's 1 wall and 2 closed doors away.

Router wise, get a 811.11g+ router and wireless PCI card, then look at all your old cables and laugh

Edit: do you need a wireless modem/router or just a router??

Well at the moment I am using Blueyonder Broadband through a cable line, into one of those "surf" modem boxes, which out of that has your standard network cable.

Not sure if I'll change ISP though after a move, so it needs to be future proof for either scenario.

Very tempted to just buy the psp doodah above, and wait till nearer the time, but thanks for the info guys.

We have a Belkin wireless box downstairs next to my Dad's computer which is wired into it. The other two are in my brother's room and my room, and can (most of the time) get a good signal. Also I can use my PSP on the crapper upstairs and it sits at about 70-80% signal strength.

The wireless play.com jobby sounds like the best option, otherwise you could get one of these so your PC and PSP can both connect wirelessy (But PC at 11mb = ), but then if you change ISP to ADSL you may need a modem/router in teh future

Oooo - I lied horribly. This linksys one is actually the wireless router we have - its the other half's house that has a belkin one.

although i can comment that these are pretty good, im wired up to it and my mom and brother both use it using magic, and as far as i know its good over magic

Yeah I'm interested to see what conclusions you guys come to, As you may have noticed me saying before I'm tring to save up some cash towards a macbook (Despite temptations of drinking and gigging).. And basically, Its near useless without getting wi-fi, at the moment my house has 3 computers connected by wired network. I originally thought I should get a wireless access point to connect to our current router, as its pointless having two routers. But if these wireless jobbies are as good as you say, should I change our entire thing to wireless ? (As some of the wires aren't properly connected - .. well they're draped through doorways) Any advice is greatly appreciated, and also on whether there are any compatibility issues with networking macs and PCs as I have no experience with this whatsoever.

Hey l337 d00ds, I got the WiFi max for PSP from play and it does the job, accept now and again it gets a little bit hot.

Another feature of it is that you can use a laptop or another PC with it (as long as it has a wireless receiver in it).

Problem I had with it was that I needed to share my internet connection, which is infact, a tick box, which is hidden away when the Wifi max is not enabled.

As far as how good wireless is, its very touch and go. One of the offices I do some tech work for has a mad wireless network, built so that the video editing guy can park his truck outside and get the use the office internet connection for his trucks network; that works like a dream.

The school I used to work for, however, had a wireless network that I believe has shortened their IT guys life expectancy by about 30 years.

As far as home use is concerned, our wireless has been touch and go. My two housemates use it all the time with their laptops, no problem. My girlfriends laptop has massive connectivity problems. I did try using wireless for my main machine, but two floors and a metal staircase meant it could barely even see that there *was* a network.

In other words, you dont really know if its going to work till you try.
