I found this one quite funny also, perhaps today I am more easily amused, or something.

Is that right though? 42k?
When I heard they were after £39k I was appalled - I do a dangerous job too, and I'm a damn sight more qualified than a truck driver, and I get paid a lot less than that. Normally I'd just consider them greedy bastards and forget about it, but yesterday I was stranded (through no fault of my own - my car had 3/4 of a tank but I was given a loan car from the garage that was empty) in town when I needed to be going between home and the hospital. So they can all get to fuck as far as I'm concerned, the selfish blackmailing bastards.

Garage loan cars always have no petrol in because people are so tight. Since they have to put petrol in straight away themselves when it's time to take the car back they drive it round and round the block of the garage to "get their money's worth" leaving just enough momentum for it to roll back onto the forecourt.
Either that or the garage suck out any that's foolishly left over.

Pffft. I'd have just left whatever I hadn't used in there, and I'd expect the garage not to have left free fuel in there anyway, but unfortunately I couldn't have filled up anyway (and I did want to). Mind you, you can hardly call someone tight for not wanting to put any more fuel in than absolutely neccessary, it costs a bloody fortune.

Speaking for myself, I get paid enough for what I do. Don't get me wrong, I'd love more and I'd hate less, but I don't feel underpaid - money is not a major concern for me. Obviously I will compare a job and pay to my own though, taking into consideration that the job I do, even though the dangers for me personally are small, I still do a more dangerous job than most. So, some people I think are underpaid. Mostly these are public servants such as nurses and the police. Tanker drivers, unless I'm missing some big piece of information to justify why they should get £40k a year, are not.

I was thinking about this yesterday. I'm all for them getting £42000 per year 'danger money' providing we can make their job a lot more dangerous.
I propose that we be given maps of their common routes and a rocket launcher. Each day, members of the public are given ammunition and assigned a random spot to patrol for that day.
Every petrol trucker is fair game - lets make the cunts earn their danger money.

I suspect it's all down to them being associated with a very lucrative market and you can't really blame them for wanting a piece of the action. The management that run these oil firms and are making even more money in this current climate are even worse. The only thing the public can do is to buy less petrol.

Like fuck I can't. I'm being reasonable about my wage, and there's plenty of sob stories I could pull about that. You're right though, they're doing it because they can. It's greed and blackmail, pure and simple. If they were just complaining then I'd say whatever, good luck to them, but hitting the public with fuel shortages is blackmail.
