OMG WTF RULES?

After talking to DP and various 5punkers about the CoD4 Situation.
The Rules - Follow them wrote:Feel free to noob tube, But try not to do it excessively - Spawning and switching to the tube immediately may be seen as excessive.
Feel free to jump occasionally, should it be needed.
Mainly Noob tubing + leaping like a faggot is not acceptable.
Please note, this is not a decision I've made on a whim, I've talked to various 5punkers about this, and it seems to be the best, most fair way to make CoD more enjoyble for the majority.

Seeing as I've been mentioned, I'll explain my thoughts on this.
Bunny hopping and other such 'leet skillz' have always been sort of frowned upon here because they're quite annoying, hence a lot of games trying to put mechanisms in the game to prevent it. In the past just laughing at the perpetrator has been enough to prevent it. COD4 doesn't seem to have benefitted from this though.
Now it could be argued that there's no harm done, and that there shouldn't be artificially enforced rules on a 5punk server. However, there were enforced rules on the BEEF server because without them the game was made unplayable, so a precedence has been set there. As for harm done, well if I get tube spammed or bunny hopped four or five times in a map I just get fed up and leave. I don't wail in chat or TS about it, but I do leave and play something else. If others also do that, then that is damaging to our game.
Somebody put it to me that bunny hopping was killing COD. I would argue that this is only a partial truth, and that the rest of the damage has been done by the constant arguing and bitching about it. Please guys, let's just get this fucking thing sorted one way or the other so we can enjoy playing the game.

Hence my prolonged CoD absence.

That's why I leave, when I start to get mad. Easier just to play something else than get the rage. I also don't play BEEF any more.

But you shouldn't have to.
Especially not in a game populated almost entirely by 5punkers.

I'm not disputing these rules, by the way. 5punk still has the most unrestricted servers of all, I reckon, and I've been using pistols and ACOG sniper rifles more than I've been using grenade launchers lately. Plus Berk owns the fucking server, so I'd only feel right in calling him a cupcake for adding rules if I actually donated a load of money to him :D
But still, I just don't see why people get mad over games. Even things I really hate like Last Stand I tend to respond with "Rrgh! Last stand! I'LL GET YOU BACK, EVIL STOAT!" rather than getting miffed and quitting or asking for it to be restricted.

I think the difference is that the thing you do is very borderline, especially with 5punkers. There's no defence against it, you're almost impossible to hit and you don't have to aim to get a kill.
IMO, It gives you a very big advantage, especially against 5punkers who generally despise that style of playing and do their best to avoid it.
Not to mention, when you generally get 1-2 kills using the leapyhopgrenade every time you respawn, it's a lot more annoying than someone getting a lucky kill here and there.

People get mad at games when they get frustrated. I can only talk about my personal experiences, but that's my only issue. I get frustrated when I'm being repeatedly beaten in a manner I consider one sided. Not necessarily unfair, but something agains which I have little defence. In some games I'm just not good enough and get frustrated, so I don't play them (most RTSs for example). In BEEF I always got frustrated by chopper whores because there's very little anybody can do about them. In COD it's mostly the GL being used excessively. Bunny hopping doesn't give me all that much rage, but it usually tips me over the edge because it annoys me by reminding me of the people I do my best to avoid in Counterstrike.

I used to get mad. It all started with Battlefield: Vietnam and just hit its peak with BF2. I just quit now because it's not worth it, and Shada's comic there makes the best point: stop getting mad at video games. I also think there's a huge difference between getting lucky kills and just not understanding how the game goes.
I just got done trying to do CoD4 TDM again. I don't understand what the hell I'm supposed to do. I mean I have to whole "push the button until the guy goes down" but 99% of the time I don't even get a chance to react to anything. I will spawn then there's just a little "*zip* then I'm dead. Almost every time. If it's not someone killing me that way, I'm getting cut down by an airstrike or a helicopter, which has been deployed by the guy who has been killing me the rest of the time! I don't get pissed at it, I just quit, but it makes me realize that I'm getting too old to invest time and patience into getting good at a video game that's only going to be "hot" for a few months.
It's the same way with TEEF. I don't give a fuck about unlocks, I don't understand the little things that people need to do to come out the winner in every little skirmish. I just want to get in and have fun. But for whatever reason, my time alive isn't that much improved over CoD.
There's just a level that a population of a game players reaches that leaves the small "l337" guys there on top and leaves anyone who just wants to go out there and have fun frustrated and leaving the game. Those same people are also not interested in letting anyone else get to that level either. I remember asking for a little guidance as to what I needed to do to get better in CoD and was simply told "You need to shoot the other players." Yeah, thanks. No shit, Sherlock.
I know I'm whining about everyone else being too good, but damnit, I want at least a fighting chance to do SOMETHING for christ's sake.

Seriously though, I know how you feel. I get on okay in COD but I was exactly what you described in TEEF.

in my case it's mostly having slow responses and never watching my back. i happen to have a very short attention span, so when in a game i always try to focus on what's straight ahead of me, i don't pay much attention to the radar or stuff. that's why i always get berk-stabbed. I don't have that with TEEF much, it's a bit more balanced but i do feel like the unlocks were an unnecessary addition, it will take the balanced away for a bit and make "1337" players. ugh.

I was an absolute cupcake in BF:V. Something about airlifting jeeps and tanks with people in them who didn't WANT to be airlifted and swinging them into other vehicles is just so wrong and so fun

My opinion: Go play UT if you want to jump around like a fag

Nade launchers give me the rage but they are just part of the game and I'll just have to make do with smashing things.

I get annoyed when I get raped in Teef, but I either demand COD jokingly if on TS/with 5punkers or if I'm going at it alone I just quit and forget about it.

I feel the vice versa of what most people do: I suck at CoD, admitted, and I try to justify this by using techniques and weapons supposedly improving my gameplay experience. Since I feel too restricted now, I think I'll just leave the game to rot on my steam account. TEEF on the other hand is great fun, and I'm quite good at it as well. Okay sure it's a little less tactical, critical hits and stuff, but there's still a lot of skill involved, everyone jumps around like a faggot, noone cares because, apparently, everyone does it. How about EVERYONE does it and then there's no problems? The reason why TEEF probably failed at 5punk is because people got bored of stock maps before gameplay, could've been justified with actually pretty good although a little less detailed custom maps but some people too busy licking Activision's arse. Or well yeah, because they suck at it, but hey, everyone sucked at first, you just quit it too early... I can't imagine that the gameplay would be boring, I mean, what, not like CoD changed fucking anything in a while, it's still the same people running around with their same fucking guns doing the same stuff every Tuesday.

Only the scout bunnyhops in TEEF, maybe a few of the other classes a bit but it's not as effective. The game's designed for it. UT and Quake III are also designed for this sort of tournament play. It doesn't bother anyone. BEEF and COD aren't designed to be played like this.
I don't play UT or Q3, and I don't particularly enjoy TEEF, because I don't like that sort of game. I do play COD because I enjoy the slower pace and different skills, a little more tactical rather than run-and-gun and twitch railgunning. When people start playing COD like UT, effective or not, I stop enjoying it.
I'm not quite sure what point Baliame is trying to make, but telling everyone to bunnyhop instead isn't the solution. I'm not even sure there is a solution any more, as this argument has gone on so long and got so convoluted that it's putting me off the game with or without the wanky leet skillz.
Edited to spell Baliame properly.

I think that if the rules improve the game for the masses then great. If it's only a small majority then want them then it may create issues, but I don't think that's the case. As for justifying using it to make up for a lack of skill without the technique, "everyone sucked at first, you just quit it too early".
I don't play cod or teef so much these days, partly because I've started playing mmongs, and partly because I no longer have as much gaming time in the week. I rarely know more than an hour or two in advance when I have gaming time these days, and it's not often that it coincides with 5cheduled games. If I can play, I will, but it's not as easy for me to make time for it as it used to be.
