I want an RPG

I'm looking for a game to play that I can just wander around and twat stuff for a while, do some quests, and just level up. Really, I'm looking for something like Diablo, but newer than Diablo 2. I've done the Guild Wars thing, and I really don't want to deal with all the PvP stuff, is there anything else out there that's similar, or am I fucked until NWN2 comes out?

Morrowind FTW!

Its dirt cheap now, and available on your nearest floor as well. Its also great.

Planescape Torment's supposed to be so good it's actually worth more now than when it came out. Cost me £30 for the budget version. Might be a bit heavy on the dialogue if you're looking for a hack-and-slash though.

Something from the Dungeon Siege series.
Hack and slash. Fancy spells. Big fancy levels. Lots of blood.
Does the job, with a decent enough storyline to keep you going.

I second this motion.

I third the sieging of dungeons. Its really rather similar in gameplay terms to diablo, in its kind of "rpg-lite" style. Quite enjoyable.

Seconded.

It's like an action RPG but it's also lazy and fun. I used to play for hours with friends on multiplayer, just playing through the story like in single player but with friends instead of a squad.

Planescape: Torment just feels a bit too old to enjoy now, the Dungeon Siege games are most Diablo-like, although the multiplayer is bit lacking as you spawn your own world, unlike Diablo's persistent one.

For my expertise level at least, there's virtually no difference between DS1 or 2 - all the things I like about the first one are in the second, and I haven't really investigated the extra features. Indeed I preferred the original to the Aranna expansion, which felt like a bit of a slog at times.

In a different vein, I've quite enjoyed Dragonshard - it's basically a Warcraft clone which pretends to be an RPG what with it's D&D badge, but I've found it enjoyable nonetheless. I expect afficionados of the RTS genre would find it ludicrously easy, but it marries perfectly with my expertise in that particular gametype.

I only had to have two goes at most maps! ;)

Sounds like an Emo song.

Also, your avatar is infinitely better now Sol. All hail the Hypno-toad!

Ive been severely tempted by the Hard Dragons. Beeing a RTS fan and a D&D geek (maximum beardage), it sounds all kinds of tempting.

*Splutters in disbelief*
Have you not seen the threads* about it all over the site!?
have a look here for some irrelevant banter about it, and here for the official site. Its the sequel to Morrowind and promises to have all the fantastic bits from it, with all of the irritating bits removed, along with shiney graphics and some awesome AI.
