So my pc is dead....

It turns on and that is about it. I've tried pulling out ram, cards, only hooking up the mian things, disconnecting everything, you name it. It wont even wake up the monitor to get into the bios. So something major is dead. So before I go and make a purchase while pissed, is this a good buy?

Looks decent enough to me for the price. I guess I'll have to live with Fista nowadays. Is there another store where they sell decent cheap pcs? I'm looking to spend the least amount possible. aka under 800 if possible. $500 would be ideal.

Have tried pulling the BIOS battery? I'll leave the advice on the spec to the professionals

I wouldn't.
The PSU looks arse, the Mobo is only baby and probably crap, 8400s are basically satan, and Fista molests children.
http://www.5punk.co.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=14074 probably has some decent information (but you'd have to mush it up to suit merkin-ness)

is probably worth a go.

Pulled the bios battery and when that didn't work used the jumper to clear it too. Nada, so I'm not sure what to do. I kinda need one asap as I do work at home on it. My thoughts are to buy something crappy like that and then in the next year build a decent pc.

Probably not a bad idea, i'd be kinda wary of the PSU in that machine, but otherwise it should be fine.

I have a brand new 550w sitting at the house that I tried to fix my old pc with. Turns out that was not the problem. So I'm not worried about the psu, only thing that bugs me is fista but I have a copy of xp if it borks too much.

If you need something crappy as a stop gap. go for cheap as dell. That new egg thingy you linked is a total piece of shit.
That newegg site is laid out like shit, it's got far too much stuff on the screen, the menu flow is terrible and the options it brings up per category are fucking stupid.
Here's a rather good system that I threw together using newegg.
Antec 900 -$119.99
Samsung Spinpoint F1 750GB - $119.99
EVGA superclocked 8800GT - $214.99
Enermax 620W Liberty w/modular cables - $119.99
Corsair XMS2 6400 ram - $68.99
Abit IP35P Mobo - $89.99
Intel C2D E6850 3.0GHz - $189.99
total - 923.93
There's a total mail in rebate of $140 dollars too so - $783.93
If that's too steep it's easily cut back in terms of gpu, mobo, psu size and even speed of cpu. But that's a system that will run everything and make it look good. It's just not worth buying pre-built boxes imo, they skimp wherever possible and still jack the price.

Problem with dells is that you usually end up waiting at least a few days for them to build it.
That's ignoring the fucking weird PSUs and motherboards they use

Dell re-seller store - pick up a box - pay - walk away.
Plus if it's a stop gap it doesn't need to be opened never mind modded.

I ended up getting a better machine at the same price as the one above, but it's an Athlon jobby, should be at my house tomorrow. This should hold me out for the year or so it will take for me to build the next one to last me 6 years. I guess 6 years is a long time, so I guess I should not be too mad at my pc, though it took everything I had yesterday not to put my boot through it, esp since I had the side cover off yet heh.

? Newegg is laid out pretty damn logically and clearly if you ask me. That and the power search tool is damn good. oh and they have the lowest prices roughly 50% of the time, and when they're not they're within 5-10%.

Well I'm back, new pc arrived today and it's all set up, too bad I have to redownload all my games. But she seems to be running fine, hooked her up right out of the box and turned it on and she came to life. So is happy again

The fan ports are a bit too big for that I'm sad to say.
