out of general interest...

I've mentioned it a few times at Grimbash, and i can pretty much predict the outcome, but i thought i'd ask just in case;

If the opportunity would arise, would any of you be willing to travel to Belgium for a Johnson bash? The pros would be that i have quite a large house, large enough to accomodate a large mob of 5punkers, and i can even offer several beds. the downside is offcourse the fact that i live in another country.

i looked up the possible ways of travelling;

there's the eurostar, wich can be pricey, unless you book in advance.
-it's fast and takes you right to brussels, from there it's only half an hour to where i live.
-may be cheaper when you travel in group, but i'm not sure.
-it's probably full of french people.
-estimated price is around £80, probably more.

then there's the Ferry, wich is very fucking slow, but i know some companies let you pay for the weight of your car, not the number of people in it.
-for about six people in a volvo it would cost around £108 (£18 per person)
-the downside would be that it leaves from ramsgate, also takes 4 hours to reach the other side.
-the boat arrives in ostends (right next to the station if i remember correctly) from there on it'd be around 1, 5 to 2 hours to get to where i live.

and offcourse there's the planes, but i don't know much about that, the price range would be around the same as the eurostar i guess.

those are the facts, all i need now is your werd.

I'd love to. I've wanted to visit Belgium for a few years now, as has Mrs Pants (again in her case), and the Eurostar option sounds pretty nice and easy. I expect I'd be hammered by the time I arrived. The money isn't such a big deal - £80 for a weekend in Belgium with friends is definately worth it.

The only problem for me will be the fact that I'll have a child to be responsible for by the time it comes around. If Mrs Pants has no objection though (hopefully by the time you want to do it I'll be owed another treat) I'm definately there.

Theretically yes, it sounds awesome, and not too expensive. However I can see other financial commitments getting in the way and preventing me spending cash on something fun.

But I definitely think it's worth trying to organise it

P.S. I'm in Brussels next weekend for a stag do!, woo hoo! :ahoy:

Oh good god, no. You can't let us loose on the continent :)

I'd be up for it, certainly. I've always wanted to visit the Menin Gate, and this would be a good opportunity.

All of this :above:

With enough notice then I imagine that few of us could make it over, although coming from the North East I think it would be a case of flying so would depend on costs.

I'll check the flight options at another time when I'm not at work, unless someone else who is unemployed and lives in Newcastle gets around to it first. Ahem.

6 5punkers in a volvo is a recipe for disaster and hilarity.

edit: In theory I'm going to Brussels at the end of the month. I'll see how that goes before giving a yay or a nay.

Berk wouldn't make it through any cursory check by border patrol, they'd turn us back.

Yes, dependent on stuff like wot brobbins said.

Quick google puts non friday but soon prices at just over £100. So plenty of warning about dates would see us capable of getting that a lot cheaper, probably get a deal for £50 or maybe less on some super economy cattle flight.

Yeah, I'd be up for it, depends on work of course, but I'm sure I can get time booked off :)
