Hi guys, I wonder if you could supply me with a little info I'm trying to check who uses which ISP, how much you pay, what speed up/down you have and how long you've been with them

I use Eclipse.net.uk and pay £30 a month for 2 meg. They are far from the cheapest, but have a great reputation for speed, reliability and customer service. I've been with them for around 3 years.

If you could post your info, would be great. Thanks for the help

I'm with Telewank, pay £25 a month for 4meg, unlimited bandwidth. Can't remember upload speed tho. Been with them for about 2 1/2 years.

I don't pay the bills so I don't know the cost or what the service is, but it's been feeling 2meggy recently. Been with them for 2 years, since our area first got broadband.

I'm on Pipex. I don't think you can get the one I'm on now, but it's about £20 for 2MB, I think. I assume it's 512 up.

No limits or caps- I've hammered it for just over a year with no word from them about usage.

They're very reliable, with good service status updates. When my connection went down because of a faulty doobry at the exchange they gave me a freephone dialup account to tide me over, which was nice.

Plus.net at £21.99 for up to 2MB but I can only get 1MB because my line is too far from the exchange or too low quality, or so they say ...

Been with them at least a couple of years with no real problems and I'm happy. Unlimited if you dont take the piss, or so the sales bloke told me with more polite words. I've had no problems with all my torrents.

plusnet's 4mbit/256 at my parents', £30 i think. (probably a year, changed from eclipse to save money)


currently i'm pretty happy with NTL, it works out cheaper, given we don't have (or want) a phone, not to mention it's uncapped, which allows me to keep the floor clean.

We're using blueyonder (telewest).. And when they get their lines updated I'll be using a 10Mb line for £35. They've always been good for me. Decent value. Tech-Support is a bit sub-par though.

yep im on NTL 2mb down, dunno what up. its £25 i think, but comes as part of a package.
Normally its pretty ok speed wise, and it is uncapped as berk says.

We had problems with stability before, but they changed our set top box and its not gone down since, so thats good i suppose.

Not cheap, but works for me. No BT phone line, so ADSL wasn't an option. Got wireless* DSL from Tele2, the internet side went to Firstnet, now owned by Pipex.

Speed is somewhere around 512**, both ways - no caps (and believe me I'd hit them***) but a hefty 25 notes a month.

Been with them for about four years, work payed for it initially, but I took over the contract, so it's sort of a business package it was 40, and later 35 a month.

I seriously cannot remember it ever failing. The DNS servers were unavailable a couple of times 2 years ago, but I know plenty of others I can use.

The fact that it's the same up-speed was always a big plus for me, as was the contention ratio - since it's a rather odd, limited service, to my knowledge there are only three users in the city - meaning you always get the maximum speed. It's also always-on pure ethernet, so I can plug anything into it without needing a modem.

* Yes, there is an aerial on my roof, and all my intarnet gets magikally transported through the air. Just the concept of this makes me want to keep it.
** Practically 300-400 in actual use - the technology is actually in place for it to be faster, but my "magic box" limits it from around 10M that I was told it achieves between my house and the wireless exchange.

Edit: *** I should probably quantify that, wrt to the "if you don't take the piss" comment above - I suspect I do: in the last month and a half, since I got the new disks I've downloaded roughly 95GB.

As is their customer service actually. Took them 4 months to sort out a changing the name and bank account of our account with them, then told us we'd have to sign another 12 month contract in the new name, which would take us 4 months over the time we'll actually be living here for. They gave us £100 credit to cover the difference, but the hours I spent on the phone to them probably cost me as much. Ah well. As with Berk, no bandwidth limit and a 4meg connection means the floor is pretty clean.

And ABC is working a lot better than Azureus was too

pipex, £24 (i think) for 2meg, upload is a shitty 30kb/s but i've never had any real problems.

in other news my friend got tiscali's "unlimited download, no caps shiny package"... after a month of constant downloading porno, music and playing games he got an email through telling him to consider other tiscali users and stop using the internet

I'm using Plus.net, i'm happy, they've got some bad press but i haven't had trouble.

Yep, PlusNet FTW. They also give you free 250mb of webspace with PHP/Perl/ MySQL/Frontpage support.

However this apparently can be avoided by using a client that encrypts the data (eg. BitComet).

onetel 2Megabit download, 256k upload. No Caps, or limits or anything nasty. £30 (Includes free phone calls).

Been very good service, been with them year and a half, upgraded from 512k to 2megabit for free about 6months ago. Never had any problems with them.

also, your best method would be to use non standard torrent ports (80 and 21 maybe) and hope.

it's worth noting that when i was using them, i noticed there was very little limiting going on with usenet, and there's none of the sharing hassle, well worth a few quids
