there is a recruitment system in the account management system on the WoW site, this lets people send trials to friends via email, if the recipitent of the trial then goes out and buys the game and pays for there first month, it all gets traced back to the account who recruited you, and they get 30 days subscription time for free.

also you can track the progress of the people you have sent trials to to see what stage they are at from being refered to when they have bought the game and purchased their first month of time from the recruitment a friend menu at the bottom. it could be a couple of months from when you send the trial untill you get the free month as they get the free month when they purchase the game
