Possible PS3 purchase, game recommendation required

I have some money burning a whole in my pocket and my next gen console collection is missing one unit. Also my Xbox is currently dead so there's another reason. The only trouble is I can't think of any game I'd like to get with it. Any ideas?

No driving or sports games please.

PS3... No driving games...

Nope, I don't get it.

the only recent game I can think of that has gotten good reviews for PS3 is Uncharted, which is similar to Tomb Raider or some shit.

Gotta make sure no one suggests GT5. :bored:

Good one, I heard that as well. But it being compared to Tomb Raider puts me off.

Any PS3 owners tried the Battlefield-esque online game? Which I can't remember the name of.

Warhawk

I see nothing I want yet, that's not also on 360. Unless your 360 can't be fixed there's not exactly a massive games library.

I'd wait until they bundled then with the vibraty controllers, they probably won't ever reintroduce backwards-compatibility, but a Final Fantasy or other impressive-looking RPG plus the full version of Gran Turismo, not the wanky rip-off prologue would probably tempt me.

Both not due until next year, MGS doesn't appeal one bit.

Just my thoughts, anyway.

My 360 is due to go back to MS for repair tomorrow, then weeks of waiting. The only things is that it was used as my DVD player and the PS2 doesn't look that good. A better player in the meantime would be nice.

Good point on the vibro-controllers.

Looks a bit mediocre and I never really liked this series, preferred Jak and Daxter.

Guitar Hero 3, Rachet and Clank DMC4 are awesome, Time Crisis 5 comes out soon, Eye of Judgement is a great geeky game but with added graphics 8D. Ninja Gaiden Sigma is pretty ace.

GTA 4 in under a months time (if you're getting it for the PS3), MGS4 in June if you like them. Warhawk is supposed to be a good battlefield-like game which I still need to get and has been £20 on PSN since it came out.

I know you didn't want driving recommendations but I have to say Burnout Paradise is the most fun I've had on a console in a long time and Motorstorm is worth a mention too. If you do get a PS3, at least try the Burnout Demo, it even lets you play on the internet :D

Sidenote: If you're getting one now you can get a Rumble contorller from CD-WOW for the same price/slightly cheaper then the non-rumble pad.

I have Burnout Paradise on the 360, and it is rather a laugh. 360 demo had the internet thingy too, which is the main thing that persuaded me to buy it.

I'd forgotten that the PS3 is actaully rather a good Blu-Ray player, and might actually get one now-ish, not least because I just bought a Blu-Ray writer.

Same here! I hadn't even heard of it, but like all the free demos I download them and play them at least once. I ended up playing this for nearly 3 hours and the online play really swung it for me.

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction has gotten 9/10 reviews in most places and the demo is available on the PSN as well. You could watch the war in the background of the game for ages :D

I went by one review, which was obviously wrong. I'll try the demo but I dont think I'll buy it right away.

The Blu-ray playing features was certainly one of the selling points for me.

No one has mentioned Resistance. I was thinking of making this my first game if I can get it cheap enough or bundled free, or would that be wrong?

I quite liked the Resistance demo but I didn't buy it. I Couldn't tell you about the full game but what I can gather is that it's fun but it's your average shooter really.

The only games I have for mine are Burnout Paradise, Motorstorm and Skate. As others have said, Burnout Paradise is great. Skate is fairly good. I liked that it was a change from Tony Hawks, since I got bored of that franchise about 6 or 7 games ago, though it's more difficult than the Tony Hawks games and since I'm not much of a fan of skating or skating games anymore I haven't spent much time on it. I don't really like motorstorm.

I am looking forward to GTA IV, GT5 and MGS4 though.

Mission Accomplished!

Game were doing a deal of £310 with GT5 and Vegas 2, which couldn't be ignored. I was just going to buy the console for £300 but to games for £10 seemed well worth it, even if I don't really want them. Can always sell Vegas 2.

Bargain! I thought vegas was crap on pc, but was ok on the 360, apparently vegas two looks and plays better on both. I think it works better because it's slower than a lot of other fps' so it isn't hampered much by the pad in terms of accuracy and speed.

It lasted a whole hour, now all it does is flash a red light at me. *sigh*
I'm glad I bought it in a shop now, so I can take it back easier. Once I've tried some basic things.

I have Vegas 1 on the 360 and quite enjoyed it but got stuck on a bit. Online was pretty good as well.

PS3. I've got a replacement now, which seems to work better. Only got to put up with the slow update downloads and installing games on the HD.
