Just discovered today that Game sells Beef2 for £19.99, so I bought it. I'll give it a go tonight and then hopefully join you in multiplayer land sometime soon!

So, anything I need to know before I start? Downloading the patch now (1.12 still the latest one?).

it's worth knowing that anything over 1gb of ram makes the game run better.

also, if you have any mates with SF, using your account with SF (even once) will allow you to get more weapon unlocks (otherwise, i'm sure one of the 5punkers can do it for you)

I bought BEEF2 off Tesco Jersey about a month ago. Still not arrived yet, although they send me an email every two weeks to laugh at me and tell me it's not in stock. Bastards.

Are the weapons unlocked per map and then reset, or permanent for your player on that account?

I'm guessing that you guys don't use the expansion for online play then?

It's a global thing for your account. I think I've found a couple servers with unlocks disabled, but pretty much every server you join will let you use them.

the expansion is pretty good for online stuff, but since some people don't have it, or it runs like shit for them, we generally stick to vanilla

you might want to set the voice over prompts to English only in the audio options, makes it easier to understand whats going on when playing as MEC or China.

edit: no i don't think so, i have 9 weapons unlocked (with 1 unlock left to use) at gunnery sergeant. (which is 5 unlocks without SF)
