New wireless ADSL router?

My router is begging to be released so it can make it's way to the router graveyard, it needs frequent beatings to keep it working. So I need a replacement, any suggestions?

My current one is a Linksys WAG54G and reviews I looked at recently made me LOL, seems as though I've been lucky it's worked this long.

:)

Ok, any other suggestions that don't involve screaming in terror?

As likely as it is that this will cause screaming again, I recently got the WAG354G. It's worked very well in the few weeks I've had it so far. Before that I had a 3com (rebranded- same as a Belkin, apparently) OfficeConnect. It lasted a year and could be a little flakey sometimes.

edit: Just read some reviews for the WAG354G. All I can say is that I've had no connection droppages and it was piss easy to set up. The range is fine for my house, but if you want to extend it there's a plug for an aerial.

I've had a BT Voyager 2100 for over a year now and its still going strong, havent had any problems with it. I connect to it with a wire but my brother connects through wireless and he still gets good pings on games.

My WRT54GC has been fine, although I don't actually use the wireless function. It has recently been slashed in price by about a half.

The old Netgear MR314 was still working but an XBox server "upgrade" to make some other routers work caused it to "fall off" the compatibility list.

Edit: By fine, I mean it has never failed in the 4 or so months I've had it. It's on 24/7 has never dropped a connection and when I'm not playing a game it's downloading documents pretty much full-time.

Well I couldn't stand it any longer and went and got a WAG354G from PC World. It took just 5 minutes to get connected and it's so much better now. Thanks for the recommendation Stoat.

make sure you enable QoS for maximum gaming goodness!

I was going to ask about this. Can it cause any problems? Guessing at how I should configure it I've set http to high priority and left most the others as low, FTP medium, as I don't use the other standard protocols. There's space for 3 custom ports, suggestions?

Also what about enabling QoS on my OS? I'm not using it yet.

I've got 3724/6112/6881-6999 for Azureus/WoW downloader and 12975 for Hamachi.

QoS is bad. It was causing problems so it's off for now until I read up about it and understand what I'm doing. :faint:

Is QoS the same as fowarding ports on the applications and gaming bit of the setup? Which ports should one foward for CS:S?

QoS prioritizes data packets going out by their impotance, so important things like the BF2 data gets through with less lag, while your porn download is running at the same time.

Ok, just upgraded my router's firmware (it kept dropping the signal) and theres now a QoS option. How does one find out which ports a game uses, specifically CS:S?
