heat or a PSU that's not up to it

these are the most likely culprits.

another problem could be some bad memory that only gets used after playing a game for a while, but this is not very likely.

Reseat the graphics card, reseat the memory, check connections on hard disk and cd drive.
Update to the latest drivers for your sound/video/motherboard.
Update your BIOS
Come back to us if none of the above fix your problems, as like Berk said, it's probably gonna be an overheating or bad PSU problem.

If only you knew how many times he's had to ask that in game :)

Alternate Solution: Don't play games

oh. dear. lemme guess, under £20? Edit: just looked, at best it's a rebranded Q-Tec.

that sounds a bit low, not impossible, but still low.

i'd suggest looking at the psu, i reckon that's the problem.

yeah lol got the PSU for 12 quid from ebuyer. its ok though, quite nice. i got one off there before for the same price and it was balls, but this one is much better made and all so hopefully its not that. the temperature thingy is weird, i dont have any kind of cooling on my case atall, but my room is absolutely freezing, so the system temp is probably due to that. im getting a new case soon with fans an all, should i get one with a built in PSU?

oh yeah, if its any help, when i turn on my pc, i have to switch the switch thingy at the back of the PSU then press my power button as soon as its switched on, otherwise for some reason the power drains out of it after a second of putting the plug in.

right, for a start, don't buy a case with a PSU in it, both will be shite.

secondly, it does sound like the psu is crap, i'd suggest trying another if possible, and replacing asap. (remember, a shitty psu can overvolt as well as undervolt, and that'll blow your computer up)
