In fact it was incredibly cheap
I managed to walk away with Ty's copy he had at the LAN party.
Accidental theft FTW
Was thinking of buying it anyway, so this made up my mind for me, and I'll be sending Ty money for a replacement
So remember kids, never, EVER, let me borrow a game at a future LAN party, unless fo course you never want to play it again

Oh yeah, seeing as I haven't really paid much attention to this forum in the past, do any of you have some good tips for patching and which servers to visit etc...
Also when creating a profile to I have to select what Nation/Team I'm fighting for, or can I change between teams, but still gain rank stuff on my player?
Basically a few quick pointers for a BF2 n00b would be ace please
Have some crispy yoda heads in advance for your efforts

Patching? Erm you have to do it to play on ranked servers. I think there's an issue about what order you patch to 1.2 and install SF, which I think I got wrong. Servers I just pick a random one usually, the in-game browser is useless at filtering anything but it just about manages to sort by ping/# players.
Ranks produce unlocks and are not Nation specific. While each Nation has its own set of guns, the alternate gun you can unlock is always the same.
You can select a team when connected to a server (unless autobalancing prevents it) and apart from the weapons/vehicles the only difference is that time as one team counts towards the relevant ribbon/medal.
Ribbons, Medals and Badges are more for show than anything as they don't unlock anything, but they can give you fun targets to aim for: if a game's a bit slow, or one sided you can still have fun trying for the knife or parachute awards.

If you see a tank and you're not an Anti-Tank, Engineer, or Spec-Ops, HIDE.

Bullshit, an engineer can take down a tank, no problem.

Best part of the game is sneaking up to stuff and blowing the shit out of it with C4

FJ means patch 1.12 as 1.2 isn't out just yet, soon. Get any patches from the usual sources, Xfire, EA, Eurogamer, Gamershell, etc.
Here's some tips:
1. The game browser can be a bit flaky, let it update the list and then reorder it by ping to get the best servers for you, the browser doesn't do the ordering properly by itself.
2. Always join a squad, this game is usually much better if you work closely with other players in a sqaud, except if you're a sniper.
3. Start as assault player class until you get the hang of the game and then play with all the other classes until you find one you like.
4. Medic class is great for point whoring.
5. Always join ranked servers.

join a team or go around with people because if you go alone you will die
and a sniper can blow up a tank but you need alot of APmines and a very stupid person to run in front of a tank

for the sake of this conversation, you can't blow up a tank with a claymore (most likely, if it does happen, the claymore will trigger C4 on an already damaged tank)

Not that it's a practice that I make, but I've seen people put the claymores on those flamable tanks that just happen to be near major roads. It makes for quite the show should some unsuspecitng person go near them.
