Mild Bollocking.

Right, I've been noticing this for a while now, as has DP.

We're being complete and utter cunts on our own servers, as such, no fuck is playing on them and we often have to go elsewhere to find busy games.

I really think it has to stop, as a community we should be more welcoming to random people and that really has to start on the servers as that's our main point of contact to the interwebs.

While I agree a lot of the internets are wankers, we're turning into the same fucking stupid elitist cunts as everyone else. and it sucks. hard.

So, consider this your bollocking. BE FLUFFY ON OUR SERVERS.

What flavour of cuntage has been had?

Whenever I've been playing everything seems happy enough. :likesitall:

Since being introduced to spandex my time on our own servers has dropped to nothing recently, but I want more shooty shooty, and fluffy shooty sounds good to me. I'd hate to be branded an elitist cupcake because our jokes have become so clique-orientated and because we're being cunts to randoms, so I'm all for the return to fluffiness too.

I've had a few thoughts on this lately, but it would be arrogant of me to try to extend my forum mod status to the servers so I generally keep quiet.

Firstly, there are a lot of knobbers on the internet as Berk pointed out. Sometimes we deal with them in a good way (like when we all changed our name to the guy who was smacktalking), and other non-cunty randoms can see that. Sometimes it goes too far and non-cunty randoms get abused (like when the aforementioned random quit and people started changing their names to a non-offensive random). That's when we become the knobbers.

Secondly, people seem to be happy to abuse randoms without provocation. I hate this, and i've spoken out about it before. A lot of us gravitated towards 5punk because we were approachable and friendly both in game and out. Stop being friendly, stop attracting like-minded gamers. This is a problem, because people drift away.

Which brings me on to my third point. Our membership is falling. This time last year I started paying attention to our daily member quota. Maybe a year and a half ago it was about 55/day. About a year ago it had gone up to about 70/day. Now it's back down to about 55 again. Now this might be partially due to the collapse of 5punkorp in Eve, as a lot of new members came that way, but with the exception of a couple of lucky finds we don't seem to be attracting anyone through games.

I'll continue to do my part by keeping the forums fluffy, something which is actually quite easy because you guys are all pretty good. Maybe we can have another brainstorming session as to how to extend and improve the site too so that new members aren't greeted by a wall of forum.

Think of it all as a spring clean.

Consider it extended, whether you like it or not (for all the orange named people.)

It'll lessen my load a bit, and let you lot piss 5punkers off rather than me. which is a good thing :)

Yeah but you do it anyway, without trying, so it's incidental for you.

I have noticed that our own server admin rules are not being adhered to in all cases. For example people being kicked without warning and for no good reason. This does not reflect well on the group or our servers.

People who do that shouldn't really be admins, at least temporarily, although I don't know how easy it is to be constantly adding and removing rights to all the different games servers and whether that task could be automated or shared out.

I don't know if the other oranges have noticed this, but people generally behave when we're there, so I guess we miss a lot of the bad stuff and rely on the rest of you guys to not let someone give us a bad name.

I've talked with DP about the admin situation.

For now, I'm thinking I'll change it so only the orange people and me have any admin rights.

If there's actually a problem, one of us is usually online, and most admin is doable remotely.

This seems like a reasonable solution.

There are a few reasons why I tend to not use the 5punk server. They are:

When playing without 5punkers

If the server is empty it is often stuck in that odd mode where everything jerks about. Changing the map normally fixes it but I am adminless and couldn't. I have no idea if it still does this, it has prolly been patched by now.

When playing with 5punkers

I always select the 'auto-team' option, which invariably puts me on the team opposing the vast majority of 5punkers. The only other player that I normally end up with is FatherJack as I'm guessing he does the same. Unfortunately you lot are rather good when playing as a team, and as such drastically unbalance the match making me think 'fuck this I'll go play with randoms'. Please please please share the 5punkers out evenly over the teams. It's more funny attacking other 5punkers in a comedy manner anyway.

It's the same for all of us I think and mostly used by those that don't use voice. I've been on servers were the team congratulates each other over in-game voice following a win, that's obviously a bit serious for us.

Saying that no one should be victimised for doing so. You don't make friends by being aggressively clichey and elitist.

If someone can think of a better word than the one I just made up in that last sentence that would be great.

The jerkiness on source servers is odd, just give someone a poke and they'll jump it on a map.

As far as the teams thing, that annoys the piss out of me too, I mostly auto-select, or just click whatever, regardless of what 5punkers are doing (unless i'm choosing to go on the crap team) It's certainly one of the factors in me not playing teef.

The best specific example I can think of is the one I mentioned earlier, when we'd driven an idiot off the server by all changing our name. That was fine, as he was baing a dick. When people started doing it to another guy who'd been on our server a few times and played well, that became abusive. I've not seen him since, and he was alright.

I can't think of specific examples off the top of my head, but I don't just make this stuff up - we wouldn't have noticed it if it wasn't happening. Generally it seems to take the form of smacktalking people for accidental TKs and stuff like that, or taking the piss when people use 'lol' or 'wtf'.

The CGA guys have been playing COD with us lately, and I could see the abuse coming a mile off. Leetspeak and clan faggotry aren't what we're about, but we shouldn't be abusing randoms for it. When the randoms start smacktalking (I particularly hate the words 'cheater', 'noob', and 'nigger'), then we should give them a warning rather than reducing ourselves to the same level. Often they'll hurl abuse then leave, with the remaining randoms hopefully feeling like we've made the server a better place.

Personally I don't expect people to be all 'gg m8', I don't like it either, but there's no harm in getting randoms involved in a bit of banter.

Yes and No, shout loudly enough on Teamspack and if the consensus that it's rape, we'll mix and match if possible.

Bonus edit for Pantsu:

Those C-- people were twattish on one occasion I saw though, they were fine last night however.

Personally I always auto-team. Unless I'm on a full-ish server with plenty of randoms and someone says "everyone on the blah team". Then I might get on the right team or I spend the rest of the round shooting 5punk. Oh yeah!

This ^

I always thought it was just because the team I'm on always loses because I handicap it. Mind you, I saw some pretty uneven teams on COD the other night. I figured that was randoms.
