If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

Is it possible to recover a BIOS that has been lost due to a crash while flashing it? We have a PC at work that's had this happen and we don't know if it's recoverable. It's a Gigabyte GA-686BX, if that helps. Ta!

Yes.
however, in the case (and age) of that motherboard, look at one of those services that sell you a shinynew bios chip pre-flashed.
edit: more to the point, why flash the bios of such an old machine? it's asking for trouble

I know that there are a few motherboards that allow booting from a floppy in order to save a fuxx0red BIOS flash (like the Shuttle AZ11 I used to have), but I don't know of many that do this. Your best bet is to use a BIOS 3rd party reseller, as teh berk mentioned.
