Hit and Run

I've been mulling over an idea for easy, 5punk-viable PvP tactics (we'll need to do it at some point). I can't see us ever being organised enough to field a conventional Eve battlegroup (BS hitters, cruiser support, frig tacklers), or at least not often enough to respond to a threat. So, hit and run:

The idea is that everyone is kitted out with a stealth bomber and however many people are available can hit a key target in a gank group with enough missiles to either kill it or drive it away. The beauty of it is that nobody has a key role so we're not restricted to having to wait for certain people to be online. It also has the advantage that we can lose any given ship with only a reduction in offensive capability, as we need no support ships.

Every ship in the formation can scout cloaked, and when the enemy is found the other ships can jump to its location. We may then be able to use passive targetters to lock a single target that we can at least cripple. Once locked either a) the entire formation looses a full volley of cruise missiles, or b) half launch EM cruise missiles and the other half launch explosive missiles a second later. With the missiles away we warp out to a safe spot. If we're close enough the enemy ships won't have time to either warp out to avoid the missiles or lock us to warp jam us before we run. If we do enough damage we could destroy a vital enemy ship and horse them to retreat.

The disadvantages are that it will take time and money for people to get a stealth bomber and the skills to fly one, and I'm not sure if you can lock while cloaked with a passive targetter. The former I consider only a temporary setback in the grand scheme of things. The latter may be remedied by fitting sensor boosters to speed up lock time once we decloak.

I expect there are other points I haven't thought of, but I don't think we'll ever be able to fight a conventional engagement and this gives us a way of driving off aggressors.

good plan in theory, but like you say, you can't target cloaked, and you also cannot fit (unless they've changed it for RMR) a covert ops cloak to a stealth bomber so no warping cloaked. :( But I will play though as I have one already!

Damn. That's a pretty major flaw to an otherwise damn fine plan.

Have you tested that with a passive targeter? I'm fairly sure it works that way.

Been thinking about this idea and I think the concept of standardised PvP ships is a good one, at least until we can afford to build, buy and fit out our own more specialised ones. I dunno about anyone else, but I can't really afford to sally out regularly in my Ferox to whack potential targets in 0.0, but if I could jump into an off-the-shelf ready to go 5punk-mobile then I'd could be zipping through Doril in no time. And if it pop, well it's free (ish).

So we'd need:

1. A Frig or Cruiser BPO ('Best' race and everyone trains for those?)
2. BPO's for all modules (MWD, WCS, Webber, Scrambler, Launchers, Guns, Ammo etc)
3. ....
4. Profit!

We'd all have to contribute towards the mins and factory cost. Insurance would be personal preference (obviously). We'd keep a stock of say, 6 ships in the corp armoury for when needed in emergencies, all named Thunderbirds 1 through 6...ok, maybe not.

Advantage is that this is still working towards the corp 'grand plan' cos ultimately we'd be selling these same packages to the noobs.

Come backs?

They should be called angels, 1 through 5. :)

This :above: , Angel Interceptors (okay, not really interceptors) FTW!

We've already got some frig BPOs for every race and some of the mod BPOs, so we're halfway there already. I've done some ME research on some of them too, but if someone wants to sort Berta (or wherever) with a lab I'll get to work on the rest.

Does this mean we're going to try a frig-swarm (zerging? :) ) tactic? I've heard this can work quite well if done properly.

5punkbusters are GO!

Tactics is subject to another lesson and with enough random loot drops and stuff we could taylor the fits to our specific skills at very short notice. But speed, surprise and aggression should be our greatest weapons. (Gawd, I'm beginning to sound like a doctrinal pamphlet :faint: ).
