Help With BT Home-Hub

A few months ago I got rid of BT as my ISP and they kindly let me keep the home hub. I'm now with Virgin Media and get a much faster connection. However they sent me a USB router and I would much prefer Ethernet. Is it possible to Tinker with the home hub so it acts as a router for any ISP?

Odd, what sort of router did they send you??
The ones i have seen have all got usb and ethernet.
And to answer your question, no a BT homehub wont work with cable. Its for ADSL only.

I have a ADSL connection with Virgin 4.8Mb. No Cable in the North of Scotland. Only just got Sky TV !! Its a Speed Touch 330 that i'm using, get a massive Ping, so no online gaming at the mo.

have you tried just plugging the router in and seeing what happens?
assuming BT aren't wankers, it might just work

ah, Virgin Media adsl eh...
If so, then there is the slight possibility you could use a home hub, but its probably not recommended and def not supported by either party.
Either way, a separate "proper" router is nearly always a good plan.

buy a new router, it's probably the easier option.

Have you got a hat & a greasy rain mac? Or just about any long coat will do. Best done in public for the full effect as well.
I think about 15 second flash has been proved the most effective.

Re-flashing a home hub is really fucking complicated.
Have a look through the 66 pages of
here if you want, but you can read the first few pages if you want a flavour of how well bt have locked down what appears to be a speedtouch modem with a fancy wrapper.
I'd just get a new one, less fucking hassle, and it'll take less time.
