ImageI am a man who enjoys Half-Life 2. I am also a man who enjoys Spaghetti Westerns. To cap it all off, I am a man (perhaps the only man) who enjoyed Lucasart's Outlaws. So you can see, this project sets my heart aflutter. It's called Fistful of Frags, and is a multiplayer mod for Half-Life 2. Sure, it may not look like much, but Sergio Leone fans should note (in case, you know, it's not obvious by both the map's and mod's name) that one of the maps is an attempt at a faithful recreation of Fistful of Dollars' El Paso. Including the bank. A beta build's just been released, you can grab it at the link below.

Who are you, and what have you done with the 5punker known as Amblin?

100% Win considering it's Beta 1.0.

Had a good blast for about an hour, time just flew by, it's brilliant.

This REALLY has my interest now :)

Do I need to have HL2/Source SDK Base/whatever installed for this? Currently the only thing on steam I've bothered re-installing is Teef.

Judging by the looks, Source SDK Base I believe.

I've had an hour or so on this and it has potential as a 5punky game. It uses Source SDK base, to answer 'Slinger's question.

Your custom appearance extends to whether you wear a hat or not, which was disappointing, but the rest was rather fun. It has a Counter-Strike style weapons purchase system, which seems to work reasonably well. The weapons are slightly unbalanced, but nothing major. It takes about a year and a half to reload any firearms and most are single shot, so fights get interesting and tend to fall into one of three categories:

Popping in and out of cover while they fire and reload.
Taking pot shots at close range then circling while they reload.
Firing a shot them going in with fists/knives/axes.

The close combat weapons aren't bad - they're not insta-kill, but they do a fair amount of damage. The axe and knife can be thrown too. Also available are bows, thrown dynamite, and bows with explosive arrows.

I had a surprising amount of funny moments, which is why I think it has some potential. The fights often end up close-up, so can get quite funny when three or four people are all trying to stab each other (then someone blows everyone away with a shotgun blast for TK fun), the explosive arrows are rather funny too, not instagibbing but hurling people all over the map. Also amusing is when someone chucks an axe at you but misses, allowing you to pick it up and throw it back.

Yes, the game has the potential for a not quite sober 5punk gaming night.

Up to you. There was about 8 servers up when I played earlier, all but one of which was empty.
