COD 2 Single Player: Thoughts. Updated Info-

First off, Wow, it blows DoD:Source away! Graphical and gameplay wise. I think COD2 looks amazing! Alot better than the source engine! When I see the source engine in action now it all looks cartoonish. (apart from Lost Coast).

First thing is though, It was like a "source" conversion of COD (Not UO). Nothing we havnt seen or used before. This leads me to to believe they are going to release some uber expansion pack with loads of new goodies (Such as UO did).

The health system, I love it, Stops all that searching for medi packs or re-loading. Keeps the game going real smooth.

Nades, Historicly, the British nade AKA "Mills Bomb", Detonated on contact with anything and had no fuse for "cooking". But of course the americans should be cookable.

Disapointed a bit with the Russian missions. Not that feel off "Wowzers this is maddness".

People also have bitched on the tank battle. Heres something that really got me. First, It just says "Crusader", There where lots of Crusaders varients. From the Crusier 1 to the Crusaders 3(A13 to A15). The main diffrence was;

Cruiser Mk1(A13 Series): Thin amour, 2pdr Main Cannon. Useless against most germans tanks past 1940.A pre-runner of the Crusader Series.

Crusader 2(A15): Faster,More amoured version of the Crusader 1, Same 2pdr gun again with poor tank killing ablities.

Crusader 3:Faster again and more amoured, but this time it spotted a 6pdr Cannon which was more than effective against most tanks 1940-43.
My belief is the Crusader we have in game is the Crusader 3 mainly because it was ready by May 1942 and first saw action in the First Battle of El Alamein.

Notice the diffrent cannon.

With this in mind,I present the german tank; It is a Panzer II (C varient I believe)

This tank had very poor amour and its Cannon was only 20mm (2pdr is 40mm) and unless at VERY close ranges had no effect against even the Crusier A13. A good tank to choose for the krauts would of been the PzKpfw IIIH, Which had better amour,a big nice gun that would be suited well to the A15(Crusader 3) the British have in game. Also, The Shermans having no effect on the tiger. ....Bollocks, At that close range it would of made some damage. Yes it was a big scary machine but it wasnt unkill-able.

Sgt Yanky: "Oh noes its teh tigger!"
Pvt Vowelsy: "NevA fear!Watch this"

*KABOOM*

By the way, I hated the lack of Anti Tank guns, Such as the one above, which was a 17pdr BEF Field Anti Tank gun.

Anyways, Loved the game look forward to the game in 30mins! YAHOHOOO

You really like tanks don't you? You should talk to Friznit.

Looking forward to playing it though, despite the historical inaccuracies. I now have it installed...

Why did the Japanese invade Pearl Harbour?

OK, I'm kdding. Think I get the gist of your argument here :)

BTW, I don't do WW2 tanks other than the ones I've played with in the tank museum in Bovington. Now Challenger 2 on the other hand...there's a tank!

Ummm, Lets see. Reg. Mitchell was the orignal spitfire designer but after he died Joe Smith took over. Didnt know it was a "devoplement" of something else though. Our you means the diffrent version? Mk1,Mk5,Mk9???

2. the supermarine s4, s5 and s6 were all seaplanes, designed for the schneider cup seaplane races, where it was one of the best seaplanes of all time

No cows were harmed in the making of this game

Just finished the single player and have to agree with the review that said it had a bit of a rubbish ending.

*spoilers*

The Allies win!

The last two missions are American, firstly storming then defending Hill 400, and finally the invasion of Berlin.

Hill 400 is great. A tough battle up a hillside covered with bunkers, trenches, mg's, snipers etc. When you do make it to the top you have to defend it from a German onslaught.

The invasion of Berlin is, well, a bit meh really. No spectacular bits that I can really think of. Crossing the Rhine had the potential to be exciting (like Stalingrad mission in the original CoD), but it as just a bit flat.

All in all though it was a very good game. Standout bits for me were:

1) The Russian mission where you have to defend that building, and hordes of Nazis swarm towards you.
2) The British tank mission
3) Most of the British missions in fact, I thought they were the most enjoyable part of the game
4) Hill 400 (see above)

Plus, multiplayer is good as ever.

:ahoy:

This :above: . I just finished a pretty mundane American mission, genuinely thinking 'I wonder how they're going to put a bit of variety into this'. Then it ended.

I was really looking forward to the giant robo stompy Hitler too.

Still a good blast though, and I especially enjoyed Point Du Hoc.

EDIT: Also, check out my current 'this week' total for how long it took me to complete. Plus a couple of hours when I turned xfire off 'cos I felt guilty for not playing Eve

The Russians and Americans missions seemed...very poor to me. COD2 Single player was quiet a let down. I was hoping steal a truck, order every one on. Ram-raid a corner shop and...*cough* I mean, ORder my sqaudies to flank the mg...I often felt very alone in whats ment to be very diffrent from that.

British mission rocked if not only because of the socks :D But no Battle of France missions??? Eh we was in Europe in 1939!

the one thing that made me go parp was the point do hoc mision (or whatever its called), or more notably when you have to defend it. i remember when it started i was pushing forward and laughing as i was advancing on the german spawning area, only to realise that was not the only one and 30,000 (i counted) germans had amassed on my left. it quickly turns into a frantic fight/ run and i was actualy quite pleased to see the americans arrive at the end of it all (first time for everything eh).

oh yeah also that mision where you have to sneak along side tanks n shit as the brittish was cool

In reply to a comment on TS last night.

Here are some Stuka(Junkers-87 ***) serial/reg. numbers:
S2+DI
V8+JB
6 (W.Nr.5040)
140736

^First two are varient codes I believe, third is unit and serial last is just a serial.

****
The ju-87 was called a “Stuka”, which is an abbriviation of Sturzkampfflugzeug, the German word for dive bomber.

Yeah, the last mission was certainly BLEH. It was a bad way to end the game. Nothing really all that epic.
