IMPORTANT - DO NOT REBOOT AFTER TRINITY PATCH

UPDATE:

CCP's link: http://www.eve-online.com/news/newsOfEve.asp?newsID=500

**************

An error in the installer is deleting c:\boot.ini (instead of the same file name in the install directory)

It did delete mine, and it will prevent you booting up windows again.

This only affects the premium content setup application.

To fix:

Create this file: c:\boot.ini and stick in:

Code: Select all

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
Then go to run and type: "msconfig" and press enter
Go to the boot.ini tab and press "Check all boot paths"

If that says you're ok then awesome, if not post here and someone will help you.

(I've got a feeling a lot of EVE players will be absent tomorrow)

This is comedy gold. I struggle to think of a more epic way to fuck up than this.

The first few lines of the installer:

Code: Select all

Output folder: C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE
Delete file: \boot.ini
Extract: boot.ini... 100%
Someone is going to get fired at CCP!

So if I only downloaded the 26mb patch (was going to download shiny graphics later) it's fine for now?

My computer's been missing a boot.ini for ages now, but it's never stopped it from booting because it's my computer. 8)

Eve-o comferms this however if you've got eve installed on a different drive to windows, it should be ok

Also, system restore also apparently works

at least it didn't do this...

Code: Select all

Output folder: C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE
Delete file: \My Documents\My Pr0n\*.*
Extract: pr0nstopper.ini... 100%
I *assume* that they'll be issuing an updated version of this patch?

How come this never came out in SiSi testing?

Would have been added in when they compiled the patch yesterday. It was ment to nuke the boot.ini file in the eve directory, but they didn't program the path properly

Even naming it boot.ini was a pretty stupid move in the first place.

Apparently it happens when you upgrade from the classic to the premium client using in the in-game update option, will try it here later when the servers are back up.

It's amazing the damage dropping a single dot can do!

Seems to be fixed if you download the upgrade now.

What's the betting that was coded at 5.29pm?

Well, I'll be honest, it makes a change from the normal patch days at CCP.

At least the game is up on time this time (and as per usual, critical stuff is broken)

Either way

Not installing games to the boot partition ftw :) I knew there was some reason I did it
