So we have the 24 hour maint which should be ending in 8 hours. Anyone have any idea how large this patch may be? Sounds like it's going to be a huge one and I'll need to burn some stuff to DVD so I can even attempt to download it. ( I like to keep about 200meg free for some reason.)

After looking at the pic dump Dolly had I'm not sure I'm liking the new colors for us Frenchie's ships. A green domi. . . I just hope I can still run the game at the same settings after Trinity as I have for Rev.

From the sound of it you can run the graphics in 'classic' mode if your machine can't handle the new models etc

hueg patch? Nah, shouldnt be that big. sisi patch from pre trinity engine to trinity engine was circa 50mb. If you want the new skins/models, THEN you need the hueg patch (its over 1gb)

Or if my explaination didnt make sence:

Current version--->new trinity engine (Including new EA Frigs, Hactors, BlackOps and Maurauders, but no new models/skins for existing ships) = 50mb or there abouts

Current version---> New Trinity engine with new skins and OMGSHINYNESS!!= 50mb patch as above, then download 1GB Plus whilst playing.

The new patch adds a new graphics engine even if you can't have new shinyness which improves performance quite a lot apparently. But for new shinyness you need a Shader 3 card.

Needs shader model 3.0 for the new graphical content.

Tell us your graphics card, and we can tell you if your card supports it.

Also, everyone will be able to run the new engine, which when I tested it on sisi boosted my FPS from 35-40 up to 75-85

Ok, so looks like I'm going for the nice little 50meg jobbie, since my ati card sucks ass.... (fire gl x-2, which is a 1950 or something, but still shitty by today's standards.)

The 1950 pro is what I just upgrade to (sorta). It's got shader model 3.0

I lie, the Fire GL = 9800 pro, the 1950 pro is the card I have sitting in the box next to me that wont work with my mobo because of unknown reasons. ala http://www.5punk.co.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=12186 Because the mobo, I can't play really any new game :/ Too bad I can"t sell someone my steam copy of bioshock

I've got a card that doesn't support PS 3.0 - however it tells me I can use the new graphics models.

Odd.

Odd.
there is a rumour that some cards can do PS 2.0b which has enough of the 3.0 featureset to confuse the testing app. weather the card can actually do the trick or not is a nother matter

Also, the trinity basic patch is 24mb

Rough guess would be ATi X1xxx+ and nVidia 66xx+ have SM3, but my experiences with SM3-only games and my 6600 had rather disappointing outcomes.

From what I've read EVE concentrates more on the optimisations in SM3, rather than something like Rainbow Six:Vegas's reliance on the standard to produce ghastly post-processing effects when you are being shot, so performance may well be acceptable even on the minimum spec - after all one of the reasons EVE has been so successful is its ability to run on pretty much anything.

In addition games like Dark Messiah and even RS:V could be hacked to run on SM2, and while they looked rather HL1-ish, performed very well.

I have Nvida 6200 something with 256 Meg

will be getting a new PC once the Xmas dust has settled, most likely a *really* fucking expensive one ... with flashing lights and that.

And a keyboard that types nice and quietly to avoid the wrath of Bubble!

indeed, I bought a G11 as DP (iirc) said it was pretty quiet, and it had those lightyuppy key things that really help when playing in the dark. Sadly not quiet enough though...

looks like we'll have to move appartment then!

Or invest in some pink fluffy earmuffs (if you haven't already got a pair, I like to have one on hand at all times) and place them on Bubble's head in a hilarious film-like fashion.

An XM84 Stun Grenade should prevent detection of any Eve activities.

What a joke. Time limiting what ships you can fly sucks.
