Is it any good then? I loved this game on the amiga, so they'd better not have fucked it up.

It certainly *looks* nice. I, too, am waiting till someone confirms it doesnt rape the memory of one of my favouritest gaems ever.

Is this the proper Speedball sequel we've been waiting for? Seems to have sprung out of nowhere.

i bought it in a tired stupor, and it's weird to say the least. the controls are quite odd, there is no tutorial level, and i didn't find any explanation whatsoever. somehow, it just seems like a half-arsed job and unfinished. i'll have to try it again properly to give my final conclusion.

Is this the game or the demo you were playing? I could forgive a demo for being like that (Darwinia anyone?).

the actual game, but it felt like a demo. however, i was pretty knackered at the time and my senses don't work well at a time like that.

Same game on sexbox. Doesn't seem good.

Dammit, it does appear that they released it suddenly, and then realised it's about 60% complete.

um, no, thats completely different. I have the one on the x-box, it is an *exact* port of the original, amiga flavoured version. The only difference is mildly improved graphics in places.
The sexbox arcade one is definately not the same as the steam one.

had a go on it again recently, and i think an ancien* should play this, to compare. is there per chance a way for me to lend my steam copy to someone else?
*as in; someone who played the original.

Well, I can do a pretty much direct comparison if you really want, seeing as I've still got my Amiga set up in the other room and a copy of speedball II in the room as well.
I'll see about buying it.

Review
It's a bit shit.

I noticed it was a good $40, which is a bit rich for my blood just for an experiment. Maybe if a commercial 5punk was paying me for reviews*.
However, the new Speedball game is called Speedball: Arenas and is due out in the spring. I suspect this is just a remodelled version of Speedball 2, which while brilliant in its time would probably seem rather shallow for a full price game in 2007.
*Well, I can have career hopes can't I?

I knew not buying this would benifit me. I loved playing it on the amiga/megadrive, and as I suspected, this appears to be some sort of rushed, uninspired money maker.
tangent -
The same can be said for soldier of fortune 3, it's story in the manual is apparently two/three lines and the multiplayer controls section is half of the back page, I'm glad I read a few reviews before wasting money on it.
/tangent.
