Image Did You Know The Voice Of Portal Is A Classically Trained Operatic Soprano? [Portal]
ImageWell she is! Ellen McLain, who voices Portal's GLaDOS (and also HL2's Overwatch), isn't just a smooth talker. She's a smooth (well...boisterous) singer as well, being classically trained as an operatic soprano with a stellar performing record to boot. So when she was offered the chance to quit talking and sing the unbelievably-awesome "Still Alive" for Portal's credits sequence, she jumped at the chance. Fascinating! You can read more fascinating Portal stuff over at Rock, Paper, Shotgun, who after their brilliant Old Man Murray piece from the other day have followed it up with a top-shelf interview with Narbacular Drop (and now Valve devs) Kim Swift and Jeep Barrett. Go on, read it, it won't hurt you.

I found her style a bit annoying to be honest. (In the commentary, that is)

I want to know who does the voice for the turrets. I wub them (not in an inappropriate way, they sound a bit too young for me).

Yeah, she's surprisingly good at a male voice.

I thought the cube was voiced by the little man in my head.

Well the cube undeniably had the cutest "poof" sounds of all.

There was an identicle thread in the news feeds (under a different name) that got no responces.

Hmmm. Have you read the first post? Some news articles do get duplicated from different sources.

Saw a sign in a toilet the other day: "We aim to please. You aim too, please."

Weren't the Combine Overwatch she's also credited as doing, all blokes? It's like they only had the money for one voice actor and made her do everything. Voice of Freeman, too.

Took me far too long to get that.
