Teh 5punky way

At 5punkorp's beginning, there was no 5punkorp. There was only a group of like-minded people that enjoyed playing games together. Joose posted on 5punk one day that people should try this internet spaceship game called Eve. Stoat and Fab and others I've never known hopped aboard and hurled themselves into the ether. 5punkorp was founded. Eve will never be the same.
Throughout the vast 5punkorp history that I am unfamiliar with, the "5punky Way" has survived since the corp's humble beginnings. How do you define the "5punky Way"? For me at least, it means that the founding ideal of the corp is that it is a game, and should only be fun. Everyone is allowed to do as they please. At the same time, the corp's members have banded togehter as brothers in time of need, doing whatever can be done to help their mates. The founders have dwindled to only Fab, and many that have joined have also left, yet the "5punky Way" lives on.
Some have feared in the past that 5punkorp is doomed to mediocrity because of the "5punky Way" and it's acceptance of individuality. "We need snipers in X ships that can do damage!!" has never been an exemplary battle cry in 5punkorp, as it's "5punky Way" is more about common support than common playstyles doing the most damage. "We need to build a battleship for (pilot x), his got blown up." is something that could rally the troops though. Pilots would materialize out of nowhere to mine in whatever could fit a mining laser, or else they would haul the ore back to a station for refining, or simply providing security from the .5 security rats. And in very little time, a battleship would be in the oven, and the "5punky Way" was boosted into an even stronger bond between the pilots.
There have been times in 5punkorp's history when hardship fell upon more than just a pilot. While members of ISS, the corp's space station and the system that housed it were in danger. Even though 5punkorp was not heavily armed with vast waves of Battleships or capitals, they fought valiantly and helped down an enemy mothership and litter the field with kills. In another engagement while still members of ISS, it was 5punkorp that attended every major battle that held the enemy at bay from claiming an outpost, until the alliance finally faltered under a combined assault against it. 5punkorp has filled many roles in it's membership in alliances. From helping to build massive outposts, to providing logistical support, to simply putting ships into combat, 5punkorp has been there.
The "5punky Way" has always been the backbone though, being the 'funny kind of sticky stuff' that makes even mining Veldspar bearable, if it's for a reason that it's members support. We have weathered many changes, losses, and even leadership changes, but the "5punky Way" is as yet unbroken.
In fact, the "5punky Way" is spreading. 5punk now encompasses more than simply 5punkorp. We now have a mining division located far in a corner of Eve where we endeavor to make our pilot's rich, while providing the corp with minerals with which to build. We have an R & D division that has recently broken into invention of high powered modules and even ships, which in turn are being produced with backing from 5punkorp for the benefit of it's pilots that helped to build the corp to what it is today. 5punkorp is still alive and well, housing the main membership which endeavor to help the different races of Eve in their quests for superiority, and in helping the alliance we are currently in to achieve it's goals. Some very 5punky pilots have even formed their own corps to follow their own hearts, while still remaining attached to 5punk.
Since the "5punky Way" has begun to spread though, we've become a very broad based group that has greatly varied capabilities. That's why I think it's time once again to expand our membership. How we go about that has always been a mystery, I used to work long hours in the recruiting channel, people grabbed somebody that they knew. Somebody worked with a guy that had an Eve keychain. Finding future 5punkers is not a science or an art, it's a matter of chance. Arguably, the most successful way has been to introduce prospects to 5punk in the main X-5punkers channel, and let them have a bumming and meet the group. More than any other part of 5punkorp, it's pilots are "The 5punky Way", and only if a pilot fits into that way of thinking will they ever be a true 5punker. Getting them on the forum where they can peruse our vast library of informative ramblings, and ramble their own thoughts with ours is a great way for them to get some 5punk on them as well.
So I ask you, please spend a little time "chatting up local", asking that solo ratter if he needs help w/ a particular spawn, hang about a station in mission hub and watch for pilots that warp back to the station on fire. Offer advice, a helping hand, the ship off your pod. Let's be 5punky ambassadors for a small portion of our playtime, and see who we meet. Maybe another corp will join us, they don't have to integrate, but they're welcome to. Maybe we'll steal the best and brightest from small corp's that are losing members, we've gotten some great pilots that way as well. The worst we can do is to spread the good name of 5punk all over Eve, where many already know about us and the quality of our pilots.
