Is the GT version of this card:

Worth £170?, I ask my graphics knowledge bitches

And should I buy it considering that I was thinking about spending about £200 on upgrading my graphics card sometime in the coming months?.

P.S. For reference my current card is a Matrox Parhelia 256mb

I suggest you wait a month or two for some of these new midrange cards to come out, such as the x800GT/GTO and 6800XT as that might drive down the prics a bit. You might consider looking at the X800XL instead of the 6800GT for a *possibly* better price/performance ratio.

In general, I think that's about right for a 6800GT. They still cost over $250 here so that's not too bad.

One thing you might want to try is get a plain 6800 and unlocking the 4 extra pixel pipelines with RivaTuner to gain free performance. the regular 6800 costs about $150 here so I imagine that you could find one for less than £100.

Hmm good points,

My original plan was to wait for the new lot to come out, ATI seem to be dragging their arse though, I saw the 6800gt and thought it was a good price as the new ones seemed to be about £220, and I want better gaming NOW!!!!

I was looking at the current range of Nvidia as better than the current ATI cos they have DX 9.0c (Pixel shader 3??) support which ATI don't... is this line of thinking flawed?

I think I shall wait, maybe I'll save up for a new mobo aswell so I can go PCI express and get a better card cheaper than an AGP version...

Not heard anything about these, will they just be revamped versions of the old cards?

He's right, but do your homework beforehand, as my Galaxy Glacier 6800 won't work properly when unlocking the pipelines, so it depends on the manufactruer of the card, but I hear most standard 6800's will work okay 8)

yeah, note I said "TRY." there's no guarantee it will work.

i have the 256mb 6800GT and it does indeed rock anything thrown at it.

on coduo i get fps of 300-400 with everything at maximum settings, except it has to be on 'trilinear'.

great card, bf2 is incredible, so so smooth.

I bought one anyway :)

Not here yet but I have Rivatuner at the ready, I reckon the Leadtek A400 GT what I did purchased will overclock quite well:
