PYRO RUSH KEKEKE!

Seriously though, just choosing classes should not be enough to induce such laughter.

I need to join in with this.

Been enjoying teef, however I feel the Pyro is too much of an 'I win' button.

I don't like the fact FF is always off too, seems valve insist on this?

The pyro is harmless over 10' away, you just have to keep away from them.

Yup, they've removed the option to turn FF on because (apparently) it was causing server issues or something.

Personally, I suspect it was because if you have FF on, you can use a demoman to boost teammates and such.

I've only had one occasion where I played as Pyro and it was a case of "I win" - in one of the progressive Capture Point maps (Kinda wild west-esque) I was in one of the small tunnels and think I got about 14 kills very quickly in one go. Hiding round corners and ambushing is very effective, but when in any more open environment the Pyro is much more limited in effectiveness. However, I'm glad they appear to have added the feature of water extinguishing fire, albeit only when fully submerged.

I guess it is because the Pyro is the natural enemy of so many of the classes - in fact only the Heavy can really challenge it. It doesn't have a natural enemy, as even a heavy can die easily as long as you orbit around whilst flaming them.

Scouts have the ability to make Pyros cry.

Step 1. Double-barrel to the back of the head.
Step 2. Run away.
Step 3. Repeat.

You missed the final two steps:

4. ...
5. Profit

Not to mention snipers can easily 1-shot pyros, all the other classes have at least one decent way of maiming a pyro pretty easily.

They really are best in CQB situations where the enemy have got themselves stacked up in a fairly small area.

Pyros are immense in close quarters combat with lots of targets to set fire to (avoid the Heavy dudes though, they can take one hell of a beating). At decent range you can easily take care of them.

I find certain maps are better for certain classes. Case in point, Gravel Pit. As a an attacking Blue I usually go as Demoman as their grenades are incredibly useful to bounce round corners/through windows to take care of sentry guns. Conversely as a defending Red, being an Engineer and setting up your sentry in a decent place is like having your own points generator.

:above: QFT.

I nade jumped myself into the corridor by b whilst playing red, stickied the door, blew up 5 people as the timer started. :P

Also, FF is needed, I thought it was better off at first, but with FF the spy actually stands a chance. Watching a pyro toast everyone, just in case, and causing no damage is so annoying, if they even suspect you, you get toasted so fast that there's nothing you can do, FF on wouldn't stop rocket/nade boosting, just make you more careful about over-doing it.

Final note, people of the fps genre, which we are, are used to running toward an enemy whilst zig-zagging as a tactic, it allows us a better shot, and allows them to waste ammo on air, sometimes we get the joy of arriving on the dead mans click of their empty chamber, and proceed to beat up on them. I find myself having to tell myself to not run at a pyro, then the flames start and I'm already too close, it's great!

I wholeheartedly disagree. The only reason FF worked OK on our server is because we are usually just having fun, but on any other server it's just terrible. Griefing/raging is just way too easy and because you can be stuck waiting up to 21 seconds, I am glad it's off permanently.
