TEEF hates my soul

First day was fun, it ran fine, looked nice, etc blah blah blah. Since then I can't play it for more than a couple of minutes without it locking my computer up. Tried updating the graphics drivers last night, but with little results. So, what else should I try to make TEEF non-spacking again?

Delete

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\user@email.co.uk\team fortress 2
that'll make it rebuild the game from the GCFs

I would check, but I'm heading for the door in 40 mins to get very drunk before proflan tommorow. If I get in before 3am, I'll check, until then it's tenderhooks for you :P

Ooo, I'll try that. I just downed the clockspeed on the GPU because it was getting hot as f00k and I assumed that was the problem.

Most likely is, but with no more info, first thing to assume is the game mentioned. ;)

This is true. I'll give it a bash this evening, bump the speed back up to normal and let you chaps know how it works out.

TF2 doesn't seems to be as much of a GPU-cooker as say, BF2, Quake Wars or even CSS, at least not for me.

I usually manually set my GPU fan speed to 100% while gaming, but forgot the other night - GPU only got to around 70°C, instead of the 78°C+ I'd have expected.

Perhaps it's well-optimised for the 8800, or something.

That's a bit shit. I'm actually trying AVIRA's free version. The big annoyance is a nightly pop-up ad, but the pop-up doesn't steal app focus, so it won't fuck up your game, and it's supposedly much better at actually finding viruses than AVG and Avast are. Also, there's no e-mail scanning and updates take a while to download. Still, if it detects viruses better, I can deal with those for now.

I think with a deleting of a file in the registry you can get that pop-up to fuck right off, at least I used to do this with my avira, I'm on avg atm, but it seems shit, in fact, I'm going to dl avira again.

I've been using NOD with Source games for ages, never had a problem with it myself.

Also, from the link, what sort of cnut recommends you turn off your security software just to play a game? I mean, obviously Valve want people to play their games, but still.

If AVG keeps showing false positives in Fear and FeapMP.exe etc, what else can they suggest?
