Anyone Remember Winamp?: New Winamp Will Stream Songs To Your Wii
Wow, Winamp! Forgot all about it. Presumed it was dead. Seems it's not, and it's making a big comeback. Most of it involves various iTunes-killing ideas, but one should be of interest to you: the new version will stream your music library to your Wii. Just in case you're the type who'd actually use that kind of feature.

I still use winamp, feels less intrusive and hogs the system less that wmp, I suppose there's lots of others with good functions (like foobar, media player classic, quintessential player, hmm there's a lot really) but I do like winamp.

Winamp is still my general medial player of choice
IMO the playlist dealy is utterly perfect, video playback is fine, if not great at scaling. oh, and it still sounds like sex (especially with asio)

This is ace news, as my Wii will be connected to my amp and floor-speakers in my sitting room, and I currently have no way of getting media from my PC to my TV. If they can now make it stream video, I will be a very happy man indeed.

Closer reading of the article implies that it streams the music via the web, so would video be too bandwidth-greedy to be a possibility?

Video would be doable on some connections, but it'd be shitty quality.
I thought I saw a wii-mod thing that allowed for streaming video a while ago, but your best bet is still an old chipped xbox, IMO.

I've been using Winamp ever since I started using MP3s in mid-1997, before version 1 was even released (I think I started on 0.92). It has lots of lovely plug-ins, I'm
very familiar with the interface, it's easy on resources, it works well and it sounds good. That's all I need.
I use Media Player Classic for videos, though. For some reason I just don't like Winamp for video, plus Media Player Classic has lovely scaled output and plays DVDs (which I don't believe Winamp does).

Winamp doesn't scale too well, or play DVDs, But I still swear by it for my general viewing purposes as the playlist is the best thing ever.
I use MPC for dvds and HD though.

I use Winamp to play random mp3 but if they're keepers I import them into iTunes. That's right, I use iTunes.

Video is already possible with
Orb (and various others, I think). I tried it out a while back. It wasn't bad, even on my anorexic broadbean connection.

I've never stopped using it for music, it's excellent. Sucks at videos, but I have plenty of video players.
I like how it doesn't act like your Mum and try to make you tidy all your music up into order.

I've tried a few different aps through the years (QCD, WMP, Real) but I always seem to keep comming back to winamp. I concure with the general though of winamp = win.

Given that my Wii is next to my PC, and my PC is close enough to my telly for a TV out connection, I see no need for any of this lark. Also my PC is 5.1 surround whereas my telly isn't. But aye, it's all about the Winamp.

Doesn't look too bad, clean lines, better than all those crazy ass ones that hurt the eyes.

It's also quite slow on track changes. which is a bit fail.
