Removing thermal grease from a cpu

I think i'll probably be buying an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 soon to replace my noisy stock cooler. What should I use to remove the thermal grease? I've never replaced a cpu fan before and the websites i've looked at all have different ideas about what you should use.

isopropyl (rubbing alcohol) and some cotton buds.

just do it in a well ventilated area and be reasonably careful

make sure you use a high percentage bottle, to keep as many contaminants out. also make sure your cotton balls don't leave anything behind. other than that clean away!

well actually I put my CPU in the washing machine, on a hot cycle, then dried it off in the microwave

It was a planned thing, using a CPU bought for the job (already dead)
