HULP!

If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

HULP!

Post by TezzRexx »

hihi

basically, PC started acting shit a few days ago and started using 100% CPU acording to the task manager, possibly after I knocked the PC by accident.

Opened it up, make sure everythings connected and slotted in properly. Booted, no change. Tried this a couple of times, nothing changed.

Tried it once more and now the monitor is saying "no display or no cable connected". :x

The graphics card seems to be receiving power as the fans still spinning but i'm pretty sure the PC is only booting to the BIOS screen.

What can I do? Am I screwed?

Does it usually beep? (it might just be that the speaker isn't connected)

Maybe pull the graphics card out and see if it works then.

Also try resetting the bios (jumper on the mobo near the battery, RTFM)

Tried taking it out, no beep again. Apparently it does make a beep, but not till it gets off the first screen, which normally takes about 8 seconds, which isnt happening.

I also noticed the keyboard num lock, Caps lock and scroll lock lights didn't flash like normal so i believe that isn't working as well.

I'm a complete noob to jumpers, what am I looking for on the motherboard? If its any help, i'm using a Gigabtye nforce3 GA-K8NS.

okeydoke.

<a href="http://www.giga-byte.com.tw/Support/Mot ... ">Download this</a>

On page 31, it tells you 2 ways to clear the bios.

Do either of them (or both, whichever takes your fancy) then obviously put it back to how it was before.

Once you've done that, reseat the memory, graphics card, soundcard and double check drive cables (just to save doing it after if it doesn't work)

All going well, you'll get the single beep of pure bliss. (then go into the bios and reset the clock etc)

also check for other noises such as hard drive whurrings, that usually means that its booting up windows even if you can't see it.

WOO! After attempting to short the jumper for a little while, I found what looks like a jump in the DVD drive which fitted perfectly. BIOS reset, screen comes back on! Thank yee much Berk!

However my CPU still seems to be crawling really bad and it's painful to do -anything-. However, I noticed that if I put my PC in sleep mode, then wake it up again, it appears to be fine....

But once I boot again, 100% CPU usage again. I'm checking for adware and viruses but so far, nothing.

Yup, there the noises I was talking about, which is also the same kind of noise I get when a new device or something is starting up on my motherboard.

Open the task manager and look for any processes eating cpu a bit too much.

Also get coretemp to check your temperatures (could be that heat is causing your cpu to throttle)

i) wait 5 minutes after booting, then go to a command prompt and type

tasklist /V >C:\tasklist.txt

then show us the textfile created on your C drive called tasklist.txt.
put it in
and
tags for readability.

ii) Download HijackThis
run a system-scan and save a log file.
Post said logfile here. (again put it in
and
tags for readability)

then wait

<i>(perhaps an FAQ with steps like this could be put up?)</i>

Tried booting in safe mode Tezz, seeing if any of the main windoze processes is causing the 100% eatage?

Yes, open Task Manager and see what process is using up your CPU. If you're running F@H your CPU will be maxed out all the time, that's normal. If it's something else, let us know so we can investimagte.

Hey Dudes, it appears to have -slightly- calmed down now, however it sometimes peaks up for no apparent reason every now and again lasting about a minute or so, then drops back down :?
buzzmong wrote:Tried booting in safe mode Tezz, seeing if any of the main windoze processes is causing the 100% eatage?
During safe mode, CPU usage was minimal, probably about 0% doing nothing, about 37% opening a window, if that. Which seems pretty normal to me. Once I booted back into Windows, it maxed out. This was before the CPU had calmed down to the state it is in now.

Don't even have F@H installed on my PC :P

Here's the shiz you asked for, with CPU usage minimal at the time of log taking place.
