To overclock or not to clock?

I have a connect3D radeon X800pro 256mb, AGP VIVO.
Its in my shuttle so bear in mind cant let it get hot!
Someone recently pointed me to
http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=188
It seems simple enough to do. Anyone here have any experience doing this?
Whats the risks?
Will it get hot?
What if i just open up the extra pipes without overclocking?
How much improvemnt would i see? i mean, i only play CS Source, is it worth it?

Whats the risks?
Killing your graphics card (and other bits of your puter if unlucky)
Will it get hot?
Probably, expect 10-20% heat increase
What if i just open up the extra pipes without overclocking?
Probably no real improvement
How much improvemnt would i see?
Less than 30% most likely
i mean, i only play CS Source, is it worth it?
You decide :D

It's not worth it in your case. Overclocking can kill the card and won't gain you much performance. This is amplified by the fact that ATi cards already run Source games really well. Don't bother.

Definately dont try doing that joining the points thing, if the locked pipelines are dodgy it means you've ruined your card since you cant undo it.
You could try unlocking the pipelines with rivatuner though, if you have problems you can always undo it. I unlocked the pipelines on my old 9800se which made it perform at 9800 pro speeds.
Edit: err, ignore the bit about joining points, i didnt read that topic and i thought it was one of those join it up with a conductive pen things.

Actually, can one of you guys help me out with an overclock issue.
I have been told that it is possible to open up the pipelines in my Galaxy Glacier 6800 128MB
However, I cannot for the life of me find out how to do it, or a tool that will do this for me, but I am positive that it can be done.
And yes, I've JFGI till my eyes bleed.

I think
Riva Tuner will let you do it.

On a side note, I find Clock-Gen works really well for CPU overclocks.

My last over-clock ended up as a stop-clock

Did it have the ever handy "Lap Time" feature?
