I have never used it, but I have heard that the PS2 online stuff is utter wank.

Even though it's an inferior console, I'd go with the XBox Live

I have ps2 online, havent played it for a while though since i used to connect it into the ethernet port on my pc which is now taken by my router. Socom 2 is probably one of the best games for ps2 online.

Basically to get it online you need this and if you want to connect directly to a router the cable is supplied in the box, but if you want to connect to an ethernet port on your pc you'll need a crossover cable like this.
