ImageYou're excited about Spore. I can tell. It's in your eyes, the way they light up when I utter the word. I can also see the grim determination in them as you steel yourself for the long wait. That's good. Because you might need that staying power. While EA boss John Riccitiello has "confirmed" that the game is due for 2009, he's also said that the game will only ship when it's done. If that's later, then so be it.
We will make the choice of shipping a better game than an on-time game given the high potential for this franchise.
You know, the more we hear about the projected timeframe of this game, the more I'm convinced we really shouldn't have been shown it all the way back in 2005. 4-5 years of collective prick-teasing is just a little much.

:above: This. I really wouldn't be succumbing to the hype or getting nearly as excited if there weren't so many fucking videos of it being played floating around. If Will Wright can play it now, why can't I for at least 18 months? :x

It might just be me, but when someone from EA says the word "franchise", a nasty chill runs down my spine. I predict that when Spore is eventually released, things like "<i>Spore: Livin' Large</i>", "<i>Spore: Hot Date</i>", "<i>Spore: Pets</i>" and "<i>Spore: Castaway Stories</i>"are sure to follow soon after.

I was thinking the exact same thing...

Cause it might be shit at the moment.

Oh, and the franchise is nothing to worry about, they're just planning a super multi-platform release. Tis also speculated that those CAM Cupboards that cut out the resin copies of your beasties may be available to the public for use, along with spore trading cards of your guys. Doesn't look like they were planning sequels..

In all honesty, I find it difficult to see how can you make expansions for a game that apparently covers everything in the first place.

Spore:Extinction?

Maybe (horror of horrors), a crossover between Spore and The Sims? :shudder:

SPIMS!

I can't see expansions really working either, that would require whole separate servers for the whole "downloading other peoples creatures on the fly" (supposing they add more creature options in an expansion ) unless you could see and interact with elements of the expansion but cannot create them.

either way I'm going to create a super dominative race of creatures that will conquer all your planets.

I hope they let you search and find planets with your friends creatures.

They do. You can search for your friends.

as much as i am DESPERATE to own this game and devote every moment of my waking life (and possibly a large portion of the sleeping moments too) i am kind of glad they've taken this approach rather than going
'oh shit everyone wants it now, quick lets get it out while we've got their atention'
'but dude it's not ready yet, it's got bugs coming out the wazzoo'
'fuck it, i want my monies, just release it as is and we can release a half gig patch every 2 weeks until it just about runs right'

although, in all honesty, it seems like it would be a ripe candidate for episodic release, making one phase of the game available at a time.; This might also help prevent uber gamers making vast planets of mega hard bastards and just spoiling it for the people who like to take their time, or don't have as much time to play and roaming around the virtual universe blowing everyone up

Wonderfully, the game adapts to your style of play, so there's very little chance that a super-powerful civ will suddenly invade and ruin your game. Watch all the dev videos (like I have, about a million times, not obsessed, honest) and you'll see the preventative measures they've gone through to make it a perfect singleplayer experience.

Oh, and that's called 'Doing an EA' when you rush things out despite their quality issues :P
So I'm glad Will's put his foot down and said.. "Look. I made the sims. Let me do this one properly and you'll get twice the turnover.. Cunts."

Probably.
Maybe.

Something like that.
