Hi 5punkers, I'm after a decent graphics card, one that will allow me to run HL2 & BF2 to the fullest and I seem to suck at choosing graphics cards, cause when I see "256 MB" I flail at it and buy it, only to find it can barely run Minesweeper.
I have an AGP system with a
Gigabyte GA-K8NS nForce3 754 pin mobo, AMD Athlon 64 bit CPU, 512 Corsair RAM (going to 1 gig hopefully) a 40 gig Maxtar harddrive with a 400 wat PSU

If you're on a tight budget, an GeFore 6600GT will run with playable frame rates all the way up to 1600x1200 (with medium quality).
Otherwise a Radeon X800 XL card or a 6800GT will let you run at 1920x1440 at high quality with ease.
and pretty much any of these cards will be fine for HL2, since I run it at ~50fps @ 1280x800 on a Mobility Radeon 9600.

Source is amazing because it can still look amazing even on a 3 year old video card. In general, ATI cards run ~20% faster than comparable nVidia cards in Source engined games.
