hmm.. first tell us your budget, and then we'll be able to help you.
512 MB RAM is fine for BF2, so I'd put most my funds towards a graphics card personally and worry about adding more RAM later.
Also, how fast is your CPU?
Edit: if you don't know how to find out, either: goto Start > Run and type in DXDIAG or right click on "My Computer".

I read on bf2 forums that 1GB ram does make quite a difference, but like Tezz says you should start with a better graphics card but I dont really know which one is best. Have a look
here
I've got a fairly good PC and it still seems to lag on 64 player games, anything less seems ok though

I'd make sure you have at least 1gb of ram, i have 512mb and its a bit stuttery when it tries swapping stuff between the hd and the ram. I'll be upgrading to 1.5gb in the next few weeks.
As for the graphics card, a nvidia geforce 6600gt is about the best value for money at the moment.
The ram would cost about £60 and the graphics card about £120.

well i should be getting my brothers 512 ram stick for free when he buys a 1gig card so that will be free so ill from spend about £120-£140 on a a graphics card, but my brother said he will buy me a graphics card for my birthday, so ill chip in like 50 pound ontop depending on what hes gonna pay so i can get the best i can

my brother is ty aka sir die alotty, and when u say the 6600 gt u mean the NVida 6600 gt with 128 mb? and is that better than the 9800 radion? and how much should i pay for either of them?

Ya, Nvidia geforce 6600gt 128mb, its about 30% faster than the 9800 pro in most games. A 6600gt would cost around £120 and a 9800 pro about £80 i think.
*is ordering 2x512mb pc3200 ram tommorow* :D

I can get a AGP 4x/8x 6600GT for $150 so I'd bet you can find one for less than £100.

i have the 9800pro aiw , 2.1megagigamagiggerhurts cpu and a gig of crucial ram (cheapest ram ever). im not sure what specs it runs at but its awfull pretty and doesnt stall hardly ever, only when my cpu gets hot or windows does its usual taddy tantrum. runs cs-s on almost full at about 80fps, half life single player on full no problems mind you, it just annoys me when you get a slight hiccup on cs.(apart from AA and all that new fangled bullshit, but that doesnt do anything anyway. honest) at 80 quid its cheap its chearfull, with your ram im sure it'll play any game out (maybe a few dificulties with intense doom3 battles, but the demo at least worked ok on mine). but bigger is always better. or somthing like that
also bear in mind that it was 130 when i bought it, not even a year ago...

the only problem I have with the 9800 pro is that it is slower than the 6600GT, but it is about the same as a regular 'ol 6600. Since it's last generation, that doesn't help it much either.

Why put a current gen card in a last gen system?

Need to be careful when youre looking at gfx cards: 256Mb XFX GF6600
Standard DDR Dual DVI Inc TV-Out. Thats about half the speed of the 6600gt even with 128mb.
