You're going to have difficulty with that, I suspect. A green card is one thing, citizenship is quite another, because to get naturalized into the US you have to renounce all allegiances to foreign countries... including the UK.

Everyone I know with dual nationality acquired it through birth or parental citizenship.

Well yer all visa are not easy to get not more than others. I know some people manage to get Daul citizenship but not for thoese reasons.

Tho to be honest KAte would like to bring the family up in UK than USA. So i like why bother really! just get green card.

First of all, there is an enormous difference between a visa and citizenship. To get a visa generally involves filling out a form and paying some money - that's it.

There are other ways to get dual citizenship, yes - it depends on the country. However, in order to acquire United States citizenship (if you weren't born with it), you need to be naturalised. The oath of allegiance is part of the naturalisation process, so it really all depends on how much your previous state cares that you've sworn to renounce all ties/loyalty/allegiance to it.

If you aren't living in the US on a more-or-less permanent basis, you aren't eligible for a green card.

I'd strongly recommend looking into this beyond reading LiveEmoJournal posts.
