Image YouTube Says September for Blocking Copyrighted Videos
The video giant is targeting September of this year as its starting date to have a system in place that will block copyrighted content from being uploaded to the site.

Beck said the video recognition technology will allow those holding copyrights on videos to provide a digital fingerprint so that if anyone tries to share a copyrighted video, the system will shut it down within a minute or so.

:(

One of the things about youtube is looking up clips of copyrighted material, old cartoon intros, best bits of comedy shows, etc. It's like going back in time when all you could do is get the whole thing video or something.

Yes, gaaaaaaaay!

And thus suddenly sites like DailyMotion with little to no administration will flourish..

And probably get invaded by all the emo kids making videoblogs.
Damnit.

Hopefully the Emo kids will stay at YouTube whilst everything good will go over the DailyMotion and the like.

Pedant tiem GO!

Pretty much everything on YouTube is copyrighted material, even the crappy emo video blogs that Pete loves so dearly. I assume they're just going to block content from the big media companies, though (and I'd be amazed/impressed if their system actually worked as intended, if it's an automated one).

(Seriously, confusion between copyrights, patents and trade marks is one of those things that I just have to correct, even more than apostrophe misuse).
