I chose October 4th, but really any day (bar October 4th) is good for me.

I voted for that, purely because I'll be either a quick car journey or quick train trip away, so when distant travellers get a date, I'll turn up!

I'll be driving from Bristol, via the MotorWEY's, and I don't mind picking people up if they are on the way, and just off the motorway.

EDIT : Bugger me, York is like north of England and stuff
Might look into train tickets first, as that's a good 3 hours driving.

Pffffffft, where did you think it was? I'd maybe allow a little more than 3 hours from Bristol too. ISTR it took me about 5 or 6 hours from Newcastle to Bristol when driving. You might be able to get a direct train though, can't remember if Virgin stop at York. They certainly go to Leeds anyway.

What to people reckon to making it an overnight trip and staying in a youth hostel in the centre of York or something? Beds are from £14 I believe.

God knows. My geographical knowledge consists of Wales being to the left of me, Scotland is at the top, Ireland is across the water, and London is in the South East of England somewhere. Bristol is under the squiggly bit that seperates Wales from England. Come to think of it I don't even know if Bath (our neighbouring city) is N/E/S/W of us on a map

If I had to name places in Northern England I could probably tell you Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, but I'd struggle to point them out on a map.

Geography was something we seemed to completely skip at my school, and the closest I ever get to a map is typing in 2 addresses in Google Maps, and getting a A4 print out of the route I need to take.

It doesn't bother me, I never plan to leave Bristol as I love it here, so I rarely have the need to "know" where places are, or have an interest in learning it. As long as I have a route printed out, then I'm happy to drive along oblivious of where I am on a map.

Ah well, each to their own I guess! What are the chances of you making it up then (navigation permitting of course)

Im not gonna drive if it takes more than 3 hours or so, as it's just not worth it. I'll find out about trains and stuff.

whats with all this '3 hrs is too long to drive' malarky? when i was at lossie heading to 5punklan (whichever one was on when buncefield went bnag) i dont think it took less than 10hrs.


having said that, i have my own car now, so i might just see how painful feeding a 3.5ltr V8 can be........
