They were on the other side of the building. They are basically going around the block, by the looks of things, but the block is reasonably big. Its going to take them a couple of minutes. Long enough for you to get out, not long enough to sit around for a chat.

As Al drives towards the gates, they swing open, and the guard outside drops, twitching. The Earth Spirit is in hot pursuit untill you pass the gates, where it abruptly stops.
