This slid in under radar. Not had a chance to watch it yet but more Sam can't be all that bad.
I knew it was coming up, but I didn't know it aired last night (didn't notice it on the torrent list this morning either).
I did, however, notice Game of Thrones. I downloaded the link and buggered off to work. Just got back to realise I didn't set the actual torrent to download. What a spaz.
Game of Thrones didn't really grab me. Standard fantasy fare - honestly, I thought it was a bit boring. People who have read the book seem pleased though.
Sam Axe is a Channel 5 daytime movie But it has Sam in it - one for a spare 90 minutes.

I didn't find it particularly interesting either. It's obvious quite a bit of money has been spent on it, but not enough care and attention spent on making engaging characters and situations.
I thought I'd hate Game of Thrones, but it wasn't as bad as I thought. I agree it's pretty standard fantasy fare (it's for this reason I've never read the books - one glance at the blurb makes me roll my eyes and vomit), but the acting seems decent enough, and I think it may become quite engaging after a few more episodes.
Also, does anyone feel the Chuck has gone off the boil a bit? Except for the episodes with Timothy Dalton (who is sublimely villainous), it seems to have lost its impetus.
The Mentalist - only 3 more episodes left in this season, exciting times ahead. I wonder if they'll finish off the Red John arc and start with something new for season 4?
I loved the first ep of Game of Thrones, though it has to be said I'm a reader of the books. It was all there from the get-go, the characters you instantly feel affinity for, the ones propelled unwilling by events, the innocently stupid, and the utterly delicious despicableness of the nasty characters.
It's been quite a while since I read the first one, so in some regards I almost viewed it as a newcomer. I remember it more as medieval drama fuelled by quite poisonous characters, rather than straight-out fantasy. While fantasy elements exist, when fantastical events do occur they are spectacular rather than the norm and this first ep probably did well enough at downplaying them.
I think every character got their share of the screen defining their position in that heirarchy of nice/horrible-ness, which in the texts took books to flesh out, so I've been pretty impressed by the (perhaps neccessary) immediacy of the screenplay.
It contains lots of tits and bums, so avoid if you don't like those, but you're safe if you do as the actress playing Daenerys is 10 years older than the supposedly 13-year-old character.
Game of Thrones seems to be a standard fantasy faire mixed with the grit of Spartacus. Although it is proceeding quite slowly at the moment it seems pretty nicely made, and once the themes have being set the story should start to flow a bit faster.
Game of Thrones makes more sense now I know it's from a series of books. The disjointedness is forgivable. And I definitely needed the "Previously on ..." bit in the second episode, to be reminded all the story threads.

Having been unconvinced to begin with I'm loving it now. It's a proper HBO show with lots going on and you have to pay attention to follow the plot(s).
I'm really liking GOT at the moment. Didn't start off great - seemed to focus a bit too much on tits and fucking (great for teenage boys, but a bit boring for something with a story) - but it's really picked up since focusing more on the characters.
