Spindle appears to be in a coma but is reliving the past 4 days events in realtime, spouting out bits of quotes from time to time.

At this rate, he should return to consciousness on Thursday, around 8pm...

Not far, only about 200m, but of course it's in three dimensions so there'll be a few levels and some windy tunnels. At least that's what Deject can show you all on the map. With not much in the way of navigation skills between you the computer ends up getting rotated in all directions as you try to interpret the 3D map.

Their site is a bit of fun too http://team8.co.uk/
Team 8 is probably the biggest SLA fansite out there. I've got a few hundred posts on their forum myself. They're a nice bunch, although their opinions on the correct way to run the game varies quite a lot. That PDF is from The Big Picture, which was an unofficial SLA magazine from the late 90s. It was quite good, but I don't think it made any money.

These damn computer screens confuse the fuck out of me. I had to learn WordPerfect when I came to this damned planet but these vector graphics are just a pile of shit! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Anyways I think I have the basic gist of the place, good enough for us to wing it. You ready? Just don't start shooting at any other Ops Grimmie, I would rather prefer avoiding heat from IA or Maintenance for killing our own guys.

I've read that site a few times - I was keeping it secret though in case Doggers let something slip on there!

Dirk wanders off to the nearest Shiver station and speaks to the Desk Sergeant.

Good morning officer! How are things with you today? My name is Dirk, I'm a SLA operative and my squad are investigating a potential breach of the wall in this area.

I would be delighted if you could help me with two things. Firstly, have you heard anything about criminal insurgents from Downtown operating in this area? Secondly, I need to commandeer some Browbeaters - three or four should do. It will be a temporary loan and should help with stopping people pestering you about being burgled.
Just in case you need me to do a Persuasion roll:

3,8,+4 = 15

I was just going to run around and physically brow beat people I didn't want to kill.

 I had wondered if anyone had done that. I think it'll just give you useful insights into how I run my game. Might help in avoiding stuff I hate players doing (and will therefore spang you for) like powergaming.
Shiver wrote:Slumming it in the sewers huh? There's been a few break-ins these last few nights, kids or something. Not had forensics out yet, but they're probably from Downtown. As for borrowing some Browbeaters, that's a big no-no. They're SLA property, not ours to hand out. Can't you guys get hold of better non-lethal stuff than that anyway?

Dirk wrote:To be fair though, we are SLA - it's not like you'd be loaning them out, just temporarily reallocating them. I mean, would you prefer we, as SLA ops, used them down by the wall, or would you prefer to use them yourself in the event of a hoard of Downtowners rampaging through the streets?

Tell you what, I'll make you an offer - let me have a couple of Browbeaters, and in exchange I'll do the forensics work for you. I'm fully qualified, all I'd need to do is borrow a kit from you which would be returned with my findings. Saves time and effort for you, gets our job done quicker - it's a win win situation for SLA.

What do you say?

Shiver wrote:Well, firstly, you're Operatives. That means you work for SLA as freelancers. That's why I'm given my armour and you have to buy yours. Secondly, I don't care about your forensics. We'll get round to that in due course. Thirdly, if someone did lend you their Browbeater you can bet your arse they'd want some guarantee they'd get it back.

Finding a sewer entrance in that area isn't difficult. While they call them sewers, they're actually part of the vast drainage network Mort needs to cope with the constant rainfall. So no turds, although there's plenty of debris floating about as the rain is quite heavy at the moment.
Underground the only light is from the inlet shafts above you, but fortunately there are concrete walkways either side of the main channel so you're not waist deep in water unless you want to be. The areas you're looking for are the interconnectors where the tunnels pass through the wall. You've not seen the suburbia ones before, but the Cannibal Sector versions you've seen are generally monstrous high pressure armoured turbines that prevent ingress by volume of water and big choppy blades. Whatever they are, there's half a dozen or so with two being further down a large vertical access shaft.

Right I've turned on all my gizmos including my coolant suit and ECM suit. I'll switch to UV light for viewing as well. I have my Mutilator glove on my "weak" hand (i.e.: not my trigger hand) but I'll leave my other weapons holstered.
OK, let's go Grim, I'll take the lead.
deej sets off at a brisk walking pace towards the first interconnect.

The nearest pipe intersects the wall only about 30m away. You arrive there with no problems to find a fairly narrow outlet with long horizontal vents in it made from tough steel. Even though it has been corrosion treated it's still pretty rusty and there's a few bits of debris caught on it, although most seems to get channelled through the vents.

Assuming you're moving through to check all the vents, all the ones on the top level are of a similar construction. One is clogged up with the bodies of dozens of large rats.

The two lower down require you to negotiate the shaft. This is an eight meter across vertical tunnel with two metal ladders running alongside each other with a rail for climbing gear inbetween them. You can't see the bottom and there's water cascading down the edges and tumbling from cracks in the ceiling.

Grimmie will have his FEN AR drawn, laser sight turned on, as well as the ECM suit.
I'll flick my IR googles down and wait by the edge, not far from the climbing-pole.
Grimmie wrote:Deject, you head down and see what you can find, I'll wait here and pull you up if you get into trouble - I'll get Dirk to toss a flare or summat' when he arrives. Give us a yell if you need a hand.
I'll also attach my climbing gear just in case I need to get down quickly.
My skill is 2, just for reference.

I'll tie off my climbing gear somewhere up near the top as a safety net and then climb down the ladder on the near side.

The distance you have to climb is only about 15m before you reach the first interconnector, and below you you can see the second. There are more, extending into the darkness, but they're not your responsibility. The tunnel ahead is pitch black and your UV has no effect unless you have a lamp or switch to IR.

I have a UV lamp, which I shall turn on.

There's only about 20m of tunnel before the interconnector and your lamp lights it up like daylight. Actually, brighter than the daylight you get on Mort. It's fairly obvious you've found your culprit as the normally sturdy looking vent has, in this instance, rusted through in several places. On closer inspection it appears to have been assisted in a few places too.
