Beta 1.3 out! beds beds beds! and slimes and... erm.. erm...
*Implemented a new lighting engine with the help of MrMessiahs (can be turned off)
* Changed the options around, added a new “Graphics options” button
* Added beds. If all players in a map sleeps in a bed during night, the game immediately skips until morning
* Added three new half-size blocks
* Added Delay/Repeater redstone dust blocks
* Added whitelisting to the server. To use, enter “whitelist <cmd>” where cmd is “on”, “off”, “add <player>”, “remove <player>”, “list” or “reload”
* New save file format, old maps need to be converted (that might take a while..)
* It’s now possible to have more than five save slots, and to rename saves
* Scrollbars in both the texture pack list, and in the map selection screen
* Replaced the Mojang splash image to reflect the new logo colors
* .. and a bunch of bug fixes and tweaks!

seems to have just broke the game for me, everytime i click singleplayer it just crashes the client. cant test MP till the server gets updated.

edit: nevermind it turns out i didnt have a saves folder in the .minecraft directory as i havnt run it since formatting, and this version didnt make one for some reason, just as i was manually making one the client got updated so it makes it normally again

Seems that beds are made from a 3 long line of wool on top of a 3 long line of wood planks.

Updated!

/edit
All seems to be working. There's a some new server control features, including whitelist, no external software required. So I've locked the server down to those on the list. If anyone's missing let me know.

Here's a few things you might want to know about 1.3.

- F3 now shows mob IDs as well. Through walls and in the darkness.
- Mobs cannot hurt you while they're on the same level as you are. They're more likely to be able to hurt you when they're above or below you by 1.
- Our floating eternally burning trees will disappear.
- All non-controlled wood supply (forests but not tree farms) will eventually disappear, as burning mobs now set trees on fire.
- Most underground chambers at Y<=16 of around 4x4x4 or larger are now infested with slimes. Slimes are invulnerable (won't drown, burn eternally, don't get hurt by hitting them but still decreases tool durability), don't bother trying to kill them. Because of the "mobs cannot hurt you" bug, they're harmless right now.

Version history says that's just zombies. I haven't test it though.

I really like the new lighting, it's a subtle but significant improvement to the visuals.

Forums determined it applies to all (or most) mobs. See the 1.3 bugs thread.

Actually, thats not *quite* true. I had a slime get stuck in some lava at the bottom of the pyramid. He lived a rather long time, but did eventually go pop.

That's because it despawned.

When I say long time, I mean about a minute. So no.

Still a despawn. Working slimes, regardless of size, die nearly instantly in lava without splitting. Mobs seem to despawn pretty regularly, especially in non-natural places. I've seen zombies spawn between four walls before, look around, and despawn 20 seconds later.

Uhhh, in that case it despawned, then instantly three smaller slimes happened to spawn in exactly the same place...

I have screenshots if you dont believe me, as I was trying to get a picture of it looking like a tard. :)

Not saying it's impossible that it suddenly started working, just saying it's probably not working as intended.

My theory is it became unbugged due to some sort of change, then it realized it's on fire before it realized it's in lava.

So I went to log on but forgot the port number on our new address and ended up on a map with quite a few people talking, non of whose names I recognised. If that server is unrelated to us how/why are they using the same domain name?

the mc.5punk domain just redirects to an IP.

any server on that IP will be accessible by pointing minecraft at mc.5punk.co.uk and adding the right port.

Authentication server is down again so I can't even login to my own server because the white-list feature doesn't recognise unauthenticated users. Good going Mojang. I can moan now because they a proper company and stuff.

I'll try to get it sorted so people can login.

I've raised a support ticket as I can't fix it myself. I'd need to be able to login to disable the white-list, which obviously I can't. :(
