I find it bizarre that you think it's odd.

Having considered it, I think I enjoy it because there's real danger, competition and people with personality.

Which I find is sadly lacking in TV these days, especially when 8 hours a day is dedicated to trying to find someone with talent who promises they'll give 110% next week, if you'll stretch out their 15 minutes to brighten their worthless and pitiful existences.

I think I've finally worked out what's wrong with The Pacific (to my mind, at least)

It's missing a great deal of the feel of futility and passing of time, like BoB had.

Seems like it cuts and changes a lot, and never really manages to cover all it should in an episode.

Take the Bastogne/Battle of the Bulge ep of BoB, seems like it lasts at least 2 eps. Even though I've checked the wiki 3 times writing this post.

Then take eps 5-7 of The Pacific, Apparently that whole operation took something like 6 weeks, and as much reference as I can be arsed to brain would put them involved in 3 weeks of it.

What I'm finding is that the Pacific has all the content I'd expect, but none of the feeling. Hard to explain.

It kind of runs into the next episode. When they attack Foy they come out of the treeline of the forest they'd been holding in the Bastogne episode. So while Bastogne is only one episode, the Battle of the Bulge is two (and referenced in a few others too).

True enough, but it's not 3 full episodes.

Having only seen the adverts for Pacific, can someone tell me what is "ground breaking" about it (as claimed in the ads and some press).

Possibly a bit nastier than most people have seen, otherwise, not much.

The adverts make it look like a WWII shooter game, not a drama. In fact, they look almost entirely CG to my sceptical mind.

Actually, the pacific is a lot brighter than BoB, which oddly doesn't help the feeling.

For those that enjoyed The Wire (if you didn't, you should) there's a new show by it's creators called Treme. Set in New Orleans a few months after the hurricane popped in. Some actors have been bought over from The Wire and one or two other recognisable faces. Such as John "King Ralph" Goodman.

I've only seen half an episode so far so no idea if it's any good. What I did see is what you'd expect from The Wire people. Lots of depth, interesting characters and hard to follow dialogue, if you're not paying full attention. But that all adds to the immersion.

Well I'm hooked. It took 2-3 episodes to really get into it, just like The Wire. Although it's more sedate and has a strong focus on the music and culture of New Orleans. So if you don't like that, you wont like this.

A couple more faces from The Wire have appeared and Elvis Costello makes a cameo. There may be other actual famous musicians in there but I'm not too familiar with the type of music to recognise them.

How about we abandon this thread since it was made like 2 season's worth of TV ago?

It was the finale. Not a bad one, either.

Burn Notice season 4 premieres on the 3rd of June. Trailer: http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=425873499852

Also, a series called The Good Guys premiered this week on Fox, and it's written by the same guy as Burn Notice. Can't really judge by a pilot, but it does seem to be worth a shot.
