Anyone tried Deadly North Sea?

It claims to be by the same chaps as Deadliest Catch (which for some reason, I quite like), though I can't find any mention of Thom Beers, or Original Productions.

Either way, it seems to cover a wider subject area than deadliest catch, Unfortunately, this seems to go against it, as there's lots of cutting and changing between subjects, and no rivalry between captains (as it only seems to cover one) Feels a lot like highland rescue or similar to me.

All in, it's fairly interesting, but not nearly as good as deadliest catch.

Bit odd of an odd mix, but I'm willing to put that down to first ep. 50% good, classic french food edumacation, 50% travel food show.

Still, if it leans more towards chefwankery, and less towards eating, it'll be godly.

This, on the other hand, made me want to kill people. I think I managed 20 minutes before wanting to climb through the screen and beat him to death. US food shows are like UK cop shows; they just don't get it.

I disagree on the sweeping generalisation of US food shows, but you're not too far off, there's only 2 I can watch, but both are rather good.

I pretty much filtered the merkin out of the fat bloke show, and watched the cooking/education bits, which is probably why I enjoyed it.

That's what I'm hoping, but it did feel a bit disjointed.

Oh, and what really bothers me is chefs that need 3rd party narration.


Raymond Blanc and Marco Pierre White.

I'm sure both are excellent chefs and intelligent people, but why they insist on muttering incoherently, then having to have someone repeat what they just said, but in english/with the bollocks removed just pisses me off.

Marco Pierre White is better than he used to be, or less inept at least. There's a video of him a while back, where he just kept saying yes or no until the interviewer got annoyed with him and he told her to get out and that they were asking him to "sell his soul" by talking on camera.

This is true, but the problem is most of the stuff I've seen of him is him trying to justify his existence, trying to be clever/interesting, and generally just turning out looking a prick, because he concentrates on himself, rather than the food.

Take, on the other hand, Ramsay, who's undoubtedly a prick, but just gets on with food, knows his shit and presents himself as an intelligent, articulate person. Sure, there's filler, but there's enough useful food stuff in the shows to make them worth watching.

I'm terribly biased here with ramsay and white.

Pierre White had a meeting with my dad last Friday, he's opening more gastropubs around the country with black sheep, landlord and adnams in. And he's lining up the ale in a bottle to use in all his pies and stews.

He had a few pints and ended up a tad pissed, told my dad one of the reasons he hates ramsay - his last wedding was a little private affair that Ramsay gatecrashed with a tv crew for his latest show.

Justified started on Tuesday here, I think I like it. Timothy Oliphant shooting neo-nazi redneck assholes is pretty entertaining if you ask me.

I'm still having trouble with the pacific.

I'm not sure if it's something about the way it's filmed, or the way the sound is. Mostly it just seems too clean to me.


But I'm having trouble really getting into it, it's not bad, it's just missing. something for me.

Also, apparently McG (producer of chuck and human target) is meant to be doing a remake of La Femme Nikita which was pretty awesome, and obviously based on Nikita, which is fucking aweosome.
